A 19h30, margaretha jüngling présentera sa performance « red curtain ».
Quartier Général inaugure sa première exposition de la saison 2026 en réunissant Jeanne Jacob, margaretha jüngling, Corinne Odermatt et Gaia Vincensini autour du faste, du
travestissement et du grotesque. L’exposition ouvre le dix-septième jour du Carême chrétien. Mais avant les jours maigres, il y a l’excès, le carnaval. « fasTnacht » convoque la nuit où tout déborde une dernière fois avant le jeûne, où le jeu est pleinement autorisé. Les mots, eux aussi, s’autorisent à jouer : fast(en) — jeûner en allemand, mais aussi la vitesse en anglais — et faste, la magnificence en français.
Cette célébration aux accents sombres est peuplée de figures, d’objets et de matières. L’arlequin — personnage oscillant entre addiction et débauche chez Gaia Vincensini, incarnation d’une fragilité trouble chez Jeanne Jacob — côtoie les ex-voto contemporains de Corinne Odermatt. À l’image des serrures, clés et smartphones disséminés dans l’exposition, les tresses de betteraves et de grissini de margaretha jüngling déjouent les codes de la matière
et de la symbolique.

“Bizarre, almost sci-fi, the entwined, silicone-sheathed bodies appear both frozen and in the process of melting. Trouser legs, faces, and hairs are discernible, yet as a whole Pantolonies eludes us: a composition of fragments in which connections form and dissolve, elements come to the fore while others remain veiled. Despite its transparency, the silicone feels fleshlike; it protects and reveals in equal measure. The sculpture beckons with its grotesquerie and its material presence. It draws us into a strange, dreamlike spell. It tempts us to touch it—to become part of it and to lose ourselves within it.” By @edmunds.miriam

Four sequences repeat with slight variations, resembling different tellings of the same lived moment. At first a single person walks, then more join in, and a shared movement arises—collective yet individually perceived. The video oscillates between interior and exterior settings, unfolding a dreamlike, searching mood. It negotiates the simultaneity of inner and outer worlds: one’s own perceptions and emotions as well as impressions from the surroundings and the traces one leaves in them. At the same time, Jacob and Tampakis investigate how intimacy emerges from the unpolished interactions of simply being together. In doing so, they invite us to contemplate the true nature of closeness, with all its vulnerabilities and desires.

The exhibition explores the act of holding onto ideals and needs as something solid, while acknowledging their impermanence as they melt or transform through interaction and time. It speaks to the risk of trust: the monsters that surface when we surrender, when we want to be close and to truly care. Ideals charged by the tension between freedom and control, between the longing to be seen and the instinct to protect oneself. Here they are not the sanitized version we know, but more a shifting negotiation trough desire and fear.

📸 “First Chapters” (2013 - 2024) depicts two idealized figures. They’re so intimately close that they almost seem to merge. This work is inspired by the unbreakable bond Jacob has with her twin sister. The painting reflects on how the way we learn to love and care is connected to the love we receive as children. The painting started in 2013 and marks a return to the artist’s origin - both in life and in painting.

Come see Jeanne Jacob’s work as part of her exhibition “Alors on étend les racines”. Jacob’s practice alternates and merges different types of media including painting, text and drawing. She pulls from feminist queer theory and contemporary sociology to explore ideas of intimacy. The artist builds her paintings in layers while letting her intuition navigate visual language codes without a fixed starting or endpoint. The titles of the paintings hint at stories and feelings behind every piece.
