Today, on Wednesday, June 28 Seniors for Climate Action Now (Kingston) and other climate activists held a rally at City Hall. Rallies in thirty cities are demanding that government and industry stop fuelling the flames of climate chaos. We need hard caps on emissions and an immediate end to fossil fuel subsidies. And shift to 100% renewable energy while generating unionised jobs and following Indigenous leadership.
Join the day of action against RBC’s investments in climate-destroying fossil fuels and the ongoing violation of Indigenous sovereignty. As part of a massive wave of actions across the country, we will help highlight RBC’s toxic investments and ensure their customers know where the money is going. Just yesterday, the RCMP raided Wet’suwet’en territory — and arrested five Indigenous land defenders.
THANK YOU to everyone who joined us yesterday in protesting RBC’s funding of fossil fuels and the destruction of our planet! Continue to write to your bank about your concerns and consider switching to a credit union that does not invest in fossil fuels!
“My grand daughter Nora is one year old. What will her world look like in 2092 -- when she’s my age? A terrifying, science-fiction apocalypse?
It doesn’t have to be that way. The fight against dirty banks like RBC is heating up. They’re mortgaging the future of the Earth. They’re frying Nora’s world.”
- Jamie Swift, Kingston
Young people are calling on governments to act decisively on the climate emergency. As seniors we will support their lead, amplify their voices and add our own to the growing movement for climate action.
We are building a seniors’ climate action group, currently based in Ontario. One that is democratic, accountable, equitable and participatory. A community in which we value each others knowledge, experience and views.
Our seniors’ climate action group will inform, and mobilize seniors in an effort to prevent more climate catastrophes. We recognize that climate action is also a demand for social justice and economic transformation – the opportunity, as well as the need, to address racism and economic inequities. We know Canada was founded on the occupation of Indigenous lands.
We are in this for the sake of future generations and the survival of life on the planet.
This is a call for action on Tuesday, March 21st, in front of the Royal Bank (65 Princess St) at 12 pm!
Don’t let Canada’s biggest investor in fossil fuels get away scott free! The climate crisis affects every living thing on our planet and every aspect of our lives. From housing to education, physical health, mental health, food systems, and social justice, the crisis leaves nothing untouched.
We all have a stake in this fight.
