Sarah Campen (@scampen ) and I (plus a kick ass bare bones team) are making a short dance film on Taas Daa/Lemisurer Island in Southeast Alaska in September. It’s about the physically demanding labor that it takes to homestead in Alaska, and what happened when Sarah realized that she wasn’t cut out for that life anymore. We’re raising $! It takes 2 flights, a ferry and a boat ride to get to the island! We’re paying everyone involved! Please support us and this dream project at the link in the bio. If you want to executive produce, we’ll send you a homemade treat from Icy Strait. /fund/tide-wont-wait-1#story

“If you don’t know what a clam garden is, you’re not alone. There’s a helpline you can call.” Listen as three young men in Kake, Alaska work to reconnect to the ancient indigenous practice of building clam gardens. Maybe turning to these ancient practices, pulling wisdom from the past, can help guide us through this painful present. Maybe listening to these boys laugh and work will soothe your soul this week. I hope so. Made joyfully as always with @hanascoho @ammonhideyuki @emckinst @kekuskee and Alyssa Peterson. Special gunalchéesh to @shawn_merry01 @mr_friday2point0 and Sean Johnson. Available where you get podcasts.

@marina_alaska speaks so beautifully about the connections (old and new) between Hawaiians and Alaskans. She says “Before we knew them in this life, we loved them”. Listen on all podcast platforms, link in bio.

I'm thrilled that Season 3 Ep 1 of A Piece of Kake is Out Now on all major podcast platforms! Did you know that Alaskan and Hawaiian indigenous peoples have been canoeing and sailing to each other's lands for thousands of years? Or that the knowledge of traditional Polynesian navigation was saved from extinction and now modern-day voyagers use those non-instrument techniques to sail huge distances? Listen to our episode and hear both Alaskan and Hawaiian perspectives as Hōkūle'a, a Hawaiian voyaging canoe, visits Alaska to start a 4-year circumnavigation of the Pacific Ocean. This show is such a joy to work on, and I'm so proud of this episode in particular. What an honor to spend time with @marina_alaska and @moani_ani and get to weave pieces of their stories into this piece. Our amazing team: @hanascoho , @kekuskee , Alyssa Peterson, Ammon Swenson, Erin McKinstry are lifting us higher with each episode. I can't wait to share this with you. Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all the podcatchers.
