⭐Introducing our latest Hive Highlight star—SCAD senior Sara Hamilton! ⭐
From Nashville to the heart of our Hive, Sara channels legacy into luminous form—crafting a jewelry collection rooted in shared knowledge and artistry passed down through generations.
Guided by conversation with renowned jewelry designer @francescaamfitheatrof , Sara pushed her practice further, experimenting with an unorthodox fusion of fibers and metal to solve design challenges with ingenuity and precision. Working with gemstones generously provided by @davidyurman , she divines meaning from material.

MENTOR TALK: DARREN HILDROW and CASTRO SMITH
-
We had the pleasure of welcoming Castro Smith and Darren Hildrow into The Business of Jewelry class at SCAD.
Castro Smith, an award-winning London-based goldsmith and master hand-engraver, shared his journey from apprenticeship to building a studio and leading a team.
-
Darren Hildrow, founder of NouvelleBox and The Jewelry Cast, spoke about positioning your work and navigating the industry, sharing how he and Castro originally connected through The Jewelry Cast.
-
It was a casual, open conversation with Professor Wells, where students were able to ask questions directly closing the session with a virtual guided tour of Castro’s studio.
-
Key takeaways:
Be authentic
Be patient
Draw every day
Document your process
“Travel in the pursuit of knowledge” Castro Smith
Build your network
Share your journey
Keep something back, protect elements of your unique process rather than revealing everything.
Start at a price that reflects your value, it’s always easier to reduce than to increase later. Consistency builds reputation
-
Thank you for sharing your insights and for your time in making this such an inspiring mentor talk, SCAD Jewelry can’t wait to have you both back soon.

"Illumination of the light"
The "Illumination of the Light" collection explores the human pursuit of perfection, a journey symbolized by light’s flawlessness. This captures the sublime moment when light touches people and the world. With this light aspects, I translated this colletion into a Structural Avant-garde high design language, using sharp, geometric Star Motifs, abstracting and exaggerating, brilliant Cubic zirconia stone and the luminescence of moonstone, navigated by a fairy guiding the world.
Thank you for everyone helping out to take this amazing shoot!

MENTOR TALK: FRANK EVERETT
-
The students had an incredible opportunity to learn from Frank Everett this week. During his talk, he explored the fundamental question, “Who is the customer?”
Everett highlighted the influence of powerful women who redefined jewelry ownership—from those who commissioned bespoke items reflecting their personal aesthetic to those who sought custom pieces that pushed the boundaries of traditional design. While he didn’t provide a definitive answer to his central question, he equipped the students with the historical context and professional insight necessary to define the modern jewelry customer for themselves.
