Since the House of Dior’s inception, ateliers have worked behind the scenes to manifest each creative director’s vision.
Starting with a streamlined sketch, ateliers spend hours preparing mock-up designs before the fabrication process begins.
Collaborating under the direction of the head seamstress and their assistant, ateliers are split into two categories: flou (dressmaking) and tailleur (tailoring).

Through clean lines and refined silhouettes, designer Marc Bohan modernized couture for career-driven women during the 1980s.
Leading the House of Dior as creative director for nearly three decades, Bohan considered impeccable craftsmanship, tailoring, and minute details just as much as the final look. This 1986 design from the Dior Haute Couture Autumn/Winter collection was inspired by the abstract expressionist works of Jackson Pollock and merges both masculine and feminine elements for a more contemporary shape.

This powerhouse exhibition honors the couture house’s vision and legacy, showcasing signature designs, from founder Christian Dior to present-day creative director Jonathan Anderson. Works by seven of the designers who have helmed the house are on display in an elegant wonderland created by Hélène Starkman, exhibition curator for Christian Dior Couture, and Rafael Brauer Gomes, creative director of SCAD FASH museums.
The exhibition “Dior: Crafting Fashion” shines a contemporary light on how the House’s heritage is formed, transmitted and reinterpreted. Opening at SCAD FASH in Atlanta, GA, and featuring almost 100 historical pieces, the seven thematic sections explore the creative process — from sketch to atelier, runway to red carpet, accessorising to artistic collaboration — within an unbroken cycle of transformation from Monsieur Dior to Jonathan Anderson.
