There is so much going on at the border lately, most of it is not even mentioned by the government anymore as much of it does not make any sense unless you follow the money.💰💵
Contractors are ramping up construction on remote areas without any environmental studies or community input anymore.
Recently they announced on their "smart wall" map that they intend to build secondary wall through the entire state of NM, AZ (except Tohono O'odham nation, only one wall there) to the Pacific Ocean in CA.
These double walls will cut through some sensitive, Native American Historical sites, Wilderness areas, National Monuments, National Parks, Wildlife Refuges etc. that we have at the border.
Wildlife openings will become useless with double walls as they will create a trap for wildlife.
We will have now a "dead zone" that will take several thousands of acres of public lands to build new roads, remove all native vegetation and extract billions of gallons of water from the aquifers without any oversight.
Ongoing double wall construction in AZ:
Pajarito wilderness area
Patagonia mountains
Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge
Yuma
We will continue to lobby our representatives as only congress can stop this madness.

Thanks @lighthawk_org for taking us up there!
Binational border Happening ll (español abajo)
We hope you can join us this upcoming Saturday at Lochiel AZ or La Noria if you are coming from Mexico.
As the border wall creeps into this beautiful area, some of this ancient cottonwood trees will be cut down to open space for the heavy machinery🌳😡
We will not let that happen!
As we mourn these beautiful spaces we also celebrate community and unity getting together on both sides of the border.
The borderlands are more than negative narratives, they are sister communities with a shared history and landscape that bring us together!!
Come enjoy some music, peacefully protest and meet other activists on both sides of the border.

Far out in the Arizona borderlands, in a place where jaguars, ocelots and mountain lions cross the border more frequently than migrants, the Department of Homeland Security is building not one, but two border walls through intact, pristine habitat.
What exactly does it say about the efficacy of border walls that the places that have one wall already need another?
We took this flight with @lighthawk_org and @sc_borderlands to see the status of construction. From the Patagonia Mountains, though the San Rafael Valley, to the Coronado National Memorial, It's not looking good.
#DidYouKnow border wall construction is blocking the Peninuslar big horn sheep migration in Jacumba? Razor wire is cutting off their only access to water, and it could start affecting these animals as soon as this summer. 🐏
Michael King, Sierra Club San Diego's Conservation Organizer, visited the Jacumba wilderness and shares his experience through one of the most critical corridors for this endangered species.

NO WAY HUDBAY!!
The state of AZ just sold to copper world project a small piece of land in the western slope of the Santa Rita Mountains. This land is relatively small but it will allow copper world to create a "buffer zone" of toxic tailings next to people housing and a little over a mile from a school😡
We gather to protest this land sale allowed by @govhobbs despite opposition from the Pima County board of supervisors and the Tohono O'odham nation that have deep connections to the mountain.
The Santa Rita Mountains are one of the lungs of our city, it provides us with fresh air and water and is home to hundreds of different species of plants and animals. This matter should concern us all, there is not enough jobs and money that can buy us back a mountain and all the water required for open pit mining.
Destroying this sensitive landscape will have consequences for generations.
Thanks to chairman of San Xavier distric Austin Nunez and Pima countyb elected officials @supervisorjenniferallen@tucsonschubert@andrescanoaz@mattheinzmd for showing up.
Thanks to @scenicsantaritas for all the work organizing and everyone that had the chance to show up.✊🏽 and @anna.darian for the pics!
A remote area in Cabeza Prieta recently got destroyed by border contractors affecting a sacred arqueological site to build double walls 😡
@washingtonpost reported:
"In Arizona, construction crews ran heavy machinery through and destroyed a roughly 60-to-70-foot swath of an intaglio, a more than 200-foot-long ground etching that looks like a fish and is thought to be at least 1,000 years old, said Richard Martynec, a retired archaeologist who now volunteers his time surveying the area"
Lorraine Marquez Eiler, an elder of the Hia-ced O’odham Indigenous people, said the damage happened last week.
“If someone came to Washington and started destroying all the different sites that people in the United States revere, it’s the same thing for us,” Marquez Eiler said.
“Those things were made by our ancestors, and it’s hitting home. … For me, it’s an emotional subject,” she added.

Thanks @lighthawk_org for taking us to bare witness of the beautiful and fragile Sonoran desert at the US/Mexico border.
The Tohono O'odham nation and Organ pipe national monument are the target for the Department of Homeland security to build primary and Secondary border wall despite the opposition of the tribe.
This walls if built:
Will destroy sacred sites,
Put at risk endemic species at risk of extinction,
Deplete scarce water wells in an already dry environment and
block ancient wildlife migration corridors.
Call your senator and representatives and tell them to oppose this projects and stand with the tribes on this issue and redirect this funding to invest in revitalizing our border communities.🦌 #ProtectOrganPipe #StandWithTohonoOodham #NoBorderWall #RevitalizeNotMilitarize
Thanks to the Nogales city council for letting us express our concerns of the historical deployment of concertina wire in the city limits and share the over 1000 comments from community members expressing their concern as well.
Here is a little part of what we shared, if you live in Nogales call your city council (520) 287-6571 and leave a message in support of the removal of concertina wire in city limits.
Thanks to @una.linea.film for recording 🙏🏽

Thanks to everyone that showed up to Quitobaquito Border Bioblitz, there is an incredible amount of biodiversity in this small place. Fresh Water from the spring creates a truly magical ecosystem with species that will only find there and nowhere else.
Since time immemorial indigenous people has developed a strong connection to this site, lived there and held ceremonies.
Many stories that the spring have witness over time.
Now customs and border patrol is threatening to build a secondary wall through the entire national monument. This once again put in risk close to 1000 acres of native vegetation and will go right next to the spring, using millions of gallons of this precious water to mix more concrete.😡
Join us this upcoming Saturday for the #borderbioblitz to Quitobaquito springs in Organ Pipe National Monument.
Located in ancestral Hia-Ced O'odham land this sacred ceremonial and historical site and precious source of freshwater in the middle of the desert could get a secondary wall that will disappear the entire mature vegetation south of the spring.
During the first wall in construction in 2021 water pumping to mix concrete lowered the levels in the spring putting in risk the endemic species of fish and turtle that live there.
Lets document the amazing biodiversity of this place with the guidance of the Organ Pipe rangers.
