I may have just found the best place to watch the sunset in DC! @catahouladc opens May 14th in Navy Yard and I was able to check it out yesterday. The rooftop looks over the Potomac, with live jazz music drifting up from inside, and of course I had to grab a Frozen Irish Coffee while the sun was setting. There is genuinely nowhere else in this city where you’re able to enjoy a rooftop with this type of food and drinks! What I tried: 🍹 Hurricane 🥃 Frozen Irish Coffee 🍸 Gin Fizz — specially shaken by the machine on the bar 🦞 Crawfish Boil — my first ever. The experience is incredible, with so many courses curated to your taste—from fresh oysters with that perfect twang to chicken that is so tender and juicy. Every single sip of their signature drinks genuinely feels like an escape from the chaos of DC to a Hawaiian beach. If the sun and heat get to be a bit too much, you can take a break under the tiki umbrellas and grab yourself a cold one to cool off. The courtyard is massive and high energy with the DJ and music. It is a great place to spend an afternoon outside this summer! The food is great with so many vibrant flavors, and you absolutely have to try the chicken skewers and the shrimp tempura—they are mandatory order territory. Strawberry season is here and it tastes best when it’s in gelato form! 🍓🍦 Dolcezza is rolling out their spring flavors this May and they are using fresh Virginia strawberries from Agriberry Farm. You can really taste the freshness in the roasted strawberry gelato! If you want to pair up your gelato, I highly recommend their Pistachio Latte or the Strawberry Matcha. The pistachio latte had the perfect amount of sweetness without being overbearing. Heads up: If you still want to make it in to try the José Andrés collab, you only have a couple of days left! The Basque Cheesecake Sundae was amazing the pepper and honey combo creates a unique flavor profile that had me going back for bite after bite. Happy hour in Georgetown where everything is less than $8 🤯 This Wednesday, I headed over to Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers for a sneak peek of their happy hour deals on the patio starting on May 18th. All of the cocktails are just $7.99, including their 2019 award-winning margarita, which I loved! Most of their drinks are made with Founding Spirits, which come from their very own distillery. The best part was definitely the happy hour food from $3 mini sliders to a whole Margherita pizza for $6. For less than $20, you can grab a drink and dinner right in the heart of Georgetown. I finally made it to the DC location of @inglekoreansteakhouse this past Monday. The entire experience takes about two hours and guides you through an incredible eight-course meal , including four rounds of different American Wagyu cuts that genuinely melt in your mouth. The drinks are just as elevated, perfectly balanced and surprisingly well-priced given the high-end aesthetic and taste. Even if you aren’t coming for the full dinner, it’s a must-visit just to sit at the bar and grab a few rounds. Saturday Night Polo at Great Meadow kicked off this past weekend and it was such a fun way to spend a night out of the city! 🐎🌅 For only $10 per person, you can head out to The Plains, set up your own picnic, and bring in your own food and drinks while you watch the matches. 🥂🧺 The energy is fantastic and there’s truly something for everyone. If you don’t feel like packing a spread, they have food trucks on-site and several local wineries selling wine by the bottle. Before the matches begin, you can try your hand at polo on the field, and the kids can compete in a massive tug-o-war between the first and second game. The only way to do unlimited dining in Arlington. Ambar in Clarendon is one of my top recommendations for when friends and family come to town. The decor and vibes are fantastic, making it the perfect place to spend an evening getting lost in a variety of unlimited Balkan small plates. The “Ambar Experience” is the only way to go. For around $50, you get endless plates from the menu, and can try everything from the Lamb Lasagna to drunken mussels! A great way to start (or end the night) is with a round of Hubert Plum shots and a piece of their raspberry cake! Flor Coffee + Books is a hidden gem tucked away on a side street in Georgetown. The first floor is beautiful with hand crafted art on the walls, but you have to head upstairs to find the bookstore that is filled with floor-to-ceiling shelves and comfy seating, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon with a matcha and getting lost in a book! I tried the Iced Berry Matcha, which is a blend of matcha topped with a cloud of whipped cream foam and strawberries. It’s the perfect balance of earthy and sweet. Make sure to grab a Steak and Cheese Empanada while you’re there, or choose from their variety of healthy breakfast sandwiches and bowls!
