Leaders representing about 30 buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that are open to the public gathered at The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread, March 16-18, for the Wright Site Directors Summit. Co-hosted by the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy and The Johnson Foundation, this convening brought together the people responsible for the stewardship and operation of these landmarks with the opportunity to share best practices and discuss solutions to challenges that they have in common. Inaugurated in 2014 and taking place every other year since 2022, these gatherings play a key role in strengthening the Wright community and supporting the long-term preservation of these important cultural assets.
Coming up on April 9, both online and in-person at Monona Terrace in Madison, WI: A lecture by UW-Madison's Frank Lloyd Wright Professor of Modern American Architecture, Anna Andrzejewski, about how Wright's reputation surged in Madison in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The talk will explore this moment of renewed attention - coinciding with the start of work on Monona Terrace and the establishing of Taliesin Preservation - drawing on archives, interviews, and new coverage.
If you're in the Chicago area, this weekend is your last chance to see "Bruce Goff: Material Worlds" at the Art Institute of Chicago! This major retrospective features drawings, models, paintings, and other items that celebrate the creative spirit of this architect and designer, who drew a great deal of inspiration from Wright.
Chahroudi Cottage, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1951, stands on a private island in Lake Mahopac, New York. Beginning this June, "Wright Over Water" tours will feature a boat ride to the island to visit this private cottage and a larger Wright-inspired house. See details at savewright.org
