I have been informed that the Orizontas panel at Mumbrella CommsCon has been cancelled. I am glad that the truth about Murujuga has prevailed again. I would like to thank everyone who stood with Murujuga traditional custodians and supported us. We will continue to campaign to protect our precious ngurra and ancient, sacred rock art. You can support our campaign at the link in our bio. Biggest love, Rae

On Wednesday, a Mumbrella conference will feature corporate lobbyists on a panel that suggests Murujuga traditional custodians engaged in “misinformation” about their own Country. Having spent years leading the campaign to protect the site’s sacred rock art from industrial threats and government cover-ups, @saveoursonglines founder Raelene Cooper sets the record straight. Raelene is a Mardathoonera woman with cultural, spiritual and bloodline connections to Murujuga, also known as the Burrup Peninsula, in Western Australia. She is a Murujuga traditional custodian, and was a former Chair of the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation. Save Our Songlines have created an email campaign calling on Mumbrella to cancel this session. You can add your voice via the link in our bio, or here: https://stopmurujugagaslighting.good.do/heymumbrellastopgaslightingmurujugatraditionalcustodians/stop-murujuga-gaslighting/ Accessibility: we have reduced font size to fit this on socials, but a more accessible version of Raelene's piece can also be read on Substack.

You may have seen that @hannahferguson___ has withdrawn from a Sydney media event this week. This piece from The Guardian on Friday explains that a panel at the Mumbrella CommsCon conference alleged “misinformation” was being spread about Murujuga’s UNESCO World Heritage listing. Ironically, they’re not referring to the government cover-up of evidence of industrial damage to the rock art that a whole range of whistleblowers, scientists and rock art experts called out last year. Instead, incredibly, the Mumbrella event claims that those very whistle blowers are the ones peddling “misinformation”. It is the lowest form of gaslighting for corporate lobbyists in Sydney to claim that Murujuga traditional custodians have engaged in “misinformation” about our own Country and the threats to it from industry and government - all the while government and industry have lied about the evidence and colluded to gag traditional owners from sharing our concerns. If you’d like to let @mumbrella_aus know what you think about this gaslighting, you can email them via the link in our bio. More to come!

During *negotiations* over its North West Shelf project approval, emails released under FOI show the extent to which the Labor government gave Woodside insider access to the approval process for its own gas export project - even letting them request changes to government media releases! It’s unbelievable to me that anyone still believes a word this government says. What sort of democracy do we live in when the government don’t consult with the people who elect them but just bend over backwards for big business every single time. The government have basically given Woodside everything they’ve asked and rolled out the doormat for them to keep trashing Murujuga. Murray Watt has still never been to Murujuga to speak with us or see this incredible place for himself but he’s happy to sell it off to Woodside. This government is contemptible.

This has been an incredible year for our campaign, and it ended with an incredible visit from our dear friends and allies from the Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan Nations. We have always been here, and together we will be here long after the last multinational fossil fuel CEO has left

Indigenous leaders from the Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan Nations in Canada joined with Murujuga traditional custodian Raelene Cooper at Woodside headquarters in Perth on Tuesday morning to discuss their mutual fight to protect their homelands from the destruction and desecration of Woodside’s transnational gas expansion plans. A historic alliance between Murujuga traditional custodians and Indigenous leaders from the Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan Nations, who are fighting to protect their territories from the threat of Woodside’s LNG expansion in British Columbia, has been forged on Murujuga in the shadow of Woodside’s massive North West Shelf gas export extension. Chief Na’moks of the Wet’suwet’en Nation and Gwii Lok’im Gibuu of the Gitxsan Nation have led a delegation to Murujuga to investigate the impacts of gas expansion on Indigenous communities, their countries and the social and economic costs of LNG projects. After a three day visit that included cultural exchange, ceremony, site visits and strategic planning, traditional custodians from opposite sides of the planet visited Woodside’s corporate headquarters in Perth, where they have requested meetings with Woodside executives, which have thus far been rebuffed. They then joined supporters and allies at Western Australia’s Parliament, where they were welcomed by Ballardong Noongar man Desmond Blurton 🙏

It’s been an honour and privilege to have such special guests come from such a long way to visit with us on our ngurra (Country). These strong leaders of such culture and status within their communities have come here to let us know about their fight in their own Country, and we stand strongly with them. We have shown them what we are up against here, and what Woodside does to our country and our culture, and we have made a strong alliance. Like us, they have been rebuffed by Woodside and our government. We stand with them in their fight and have a simple message: This is just the beginning.

A historic alliance between Murujuga traditional custodians and Indigenous leaders from Canada, who are fighting to protect their territories from the threat of a Woodside-backed gas pipeline in British Columbia, has been forged on Murujuga in the shadow of Woodside’s massive North West Shelf gas export extension. It comes after the Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan Indigenous leaders also sought to discuss Woodside’s gas expansion with WA Premier Roger Cook during his visit to Karratha on Sunday, with the Premier promising discussions on Sunday night that never eventuated.
