Gearing up for an A&R Worldwide conversation on the global expansion of Latin music at BIME in Bogata, Colombia with Chartmetric’s Andreas Katsambas, ROSTR’s Mark Williamson, and The Team’s Tom Windish.
It was great to catch up with my friend and one of the U.K.’s most impactful A&R and label executives – Jo Charrington (President, Capitol Records, U.K.) who has signed the likes of Sam Smith, Paloma Faith and many others.
A&R Worldwide Founder Sat Bisla first met Wendy Goldstein when she worked as a leading A&R executive at Priority/Capitol Records in the early 2000’s when Sat was an A&R consultant for Capitol Records’ Head of A&R, Ron Laffitte. Sat met Bryan Turner at his home back in 2001 when they were celebrating the signing of the 15-year-old singer/songwriter Bonnie McKee whom Sat helped with early A&R development (and sign to Warner Music through his attorneys Doug Mark and Brian Schall) with Bryan’s nephew Dylan (who was Sat’s assistant at the time).
Wendy Goldstein, President & Chief Creative Officer at Republic Records, is a pivotal A&R figure with over three decades of experience, instrumental in shaping the careers of artists like Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, John Legend, The Roots, and countless others. Starting as an assistant at Epic Records, she overcame early industry gender barriers to become a top executive known for her, according to an interview, keen ear for talent across genres. Wendy is also the first-ever recipient of the esteemed annual “Seymour Stein – Global A&R Award,” which is held annually at A&R Worldwide’s global music business conference – MUSEXPO “United Nations of Music.”
Bryan Turner revolutionized West Coast hip-hop by founding Priority Records in 1985, turning it into a major independent powerhouse responsible for launching N.W.A. and fostering the careers of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and countless others. His strategic leadership, noted in a Billboard interview, transformed the label into a dominant force, leading to a long-lasting legacy in urban music. Bryan currently serves as the Non-Executive Chairman at Cinq Music Group.
It was an honor to moderate the A&R Worldwide “Global Sync” panel at Composer Summit Prague with the amazing Steven Gizicki, Justin Von Winterfeldt, Dave Jordan, and Jen Malone.
I had the pleasure of sharing insights into the global music business with students at Wolverhampton University (my hometown) in England recently. It’s always great to share insights and knowledge with the next generation of passionate music fans.
