'A kind of consummation': vol:2 {Consummation: the end of something, the start of something else}
Inspired by ancient folklore and the knowing that all beings - human and more-than-human, leaf and wing, water and sky - are bound in kinship, @sashaxisis sought to visualise a feeling she had always carried: a homesickness that only submersion could soothe.
To submerge is to listen, to remember.
@mrs_meg_avon responded to this universal longing with the ultimate gesture of devotion, a marriage to the water in 2023: she vowed to honour and protect her River, in sickness and in health, until death do they part.
Although no one owns British Rivers, 97% of them run through private land. So she did not get to swim with her beloved (and consummate their marriage) on their wedding day. This shoot felt illicit.
One day soon however, this act of submersion - of brave and vulnerable love - will be free from unnecessary risk 🤍

I have been taking pictures of people on bikes for as long as I can remember. Something about it! Need to dig out the photobook I made of people on bikes in Vietnam when I was 18. maybe I’ll make another. Bikes around the world. To wheels ! And motion and full circles
