Today, we are highlighting 𝗦𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻’s sculpture 𝘿𝙖𝙚𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙣. Named after the tiny protagonist of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, Sascha Mallon’s Däumelinchen functions as a delicate archetype of the soul’s journey through the unknown. In the original tale, the thumb-sized girl is born from a flower—an emergence from nature that mirrors the way a symbol is born from the depths of the subconscious. In Mallon’s interpretation, Däumelinchen is not a perfected, decorative figurine, but an “alive” creature possessing the raw, unpolished texture of a living being. Crafted in porcelain with subtle underglaze details, the figure embodies the profound strength found in extreme fragility. Though small in scale, she carries the weight of a monumental narrative: the ability to navigate a world of giants and shifting landscapes while retaining one’s essential self. Featured here is Sascha Mallon’s Sun & Shadow Pocket Dish—a hand-built ceramic piece that beautifully captures the essence of this cosmic reset. Unfolding into two shallow, scalloped dishes joined together, one side radiates a warm orange-red glaze, while the other carries a bold sweep of black, curving like a shadow crossing the sun. It is a striking yet gentle reminder that opposites—warmth and darkness, consciousness and dream—rest peacefully side by side. Rooted in fairy-tale symbolism and informed by her Buddhist practice, Sascha’s work reflects an ethic of interconnectedness and slow, embodied knowledge. ✨ Coming soon to Fou Gallery — 𝑨 𝑾𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎, a group exhibition featuring three artists: 𝗪𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘃𝗲𝗻, 𝗦𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻, and 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝘀𝘂, curated by @echoyuhe 🎨𝗪𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘃𝗲𝗻 (b. 1962, New York) is a multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, installation, and painting. A MacDowell Fellow and Parsons faculty member, she completed a major public commission for NYC’s Percent for Art program in 2024. Her work has been featured at Art on Paper Fair, Arts Brookfield, Riverside Park, PULSE Miami, and Fou Gallery. 🧵 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝘀𝘂 (b. 1981, Taipei) is a New York–based interdisciplinary artist whose fiber-based practice explores the thresholds between energy, materiality, mysticism, and healing. A graduate of Parsons and SVA, she was commissioned by Battery Park City Authority to create a public art installation in 2024, and is a recipient of the New Futures Artist Award from The Other Art Fair. 🪷 𝗦𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻 (b. 1967, Linz, Austria) is based in Beacon, New York, creating large-scale wall installations that weave together painting, textile, and porcelain. Trained in art therapy and certified as a meditation teacher through Tibet House New York, she has exhibited at the Austrian Cultural Forum and has worked as a Hospital Artist-in-Residence at Mount Sinai since 2012.
