We’ll also be screening Part 1 of our documentary, Beyond the Classroom: The Puro Community Afterschool Program, Part 1, showcasing how students expressed themselves through fashion design, creativity, and hands-on learning experiences made possible through our afterschool programming.

In preparation for Saturday’s Puro Community student photography gallery opening, our students spent the day giving new life to picture frames sourced from @goodwillsa as part of our ongoing commitment to upcycling and sustainability. 🖼️✨
From polishing and cleaning to carefully preparing each frame for display, students played a hands-on role in getting the gallery ready for the community. Every detail reflects their creativity, hard work, and care for the stories they’re sharing through photography.
These frames may have had a past life, but now they’ll help showcase the voices and perspectives of our young artists. 💙
As a reminder, our gallery opening is tomorrow from 7–9 PM! We hope to see the community there to celebrate and support our students’ work.

Through photography and conversation, our afterschool photography students documented the @futurosanantonio research meeting alongside @councilwoman.marina event while also sharing their real-life experiences using VIA every day to get to school, work, programs, and opportunities throughout the city.
We’re proud to see our students not only behind the camera but also using their voices to advocate for accessibility and support in their community.

Our afterschool students had an incredible opportunity to participate in the @futurosanantonio research meeting with @councilwoman.marina to discuss the impact of free @viatransit bus passes for middle and high school students in San Antonio.
Beyond capturing photos and documenting the event, our students were able to engage in advocacy, ask questions, and share testimony about their own experiences riding VIA every day to get to school, work, and opportunities across the city.
We’re grateful to Futuro San Antonio for the invitation, to Councilwoman Alderete Gavito for championing this important initiative, and to VIA for supporting access and mobility for students across San Antonio.
Opportunities like this help our students build confidence, leadership, storytelling, and advocacy skills while connecting their voices to real community conversations. #purocommunity #afterschoolactivities
We’re incredibly thankful to have welcomed our very first mentor, @anthonyguajardo , to our photography workshops!
Our students truly enjoyed getting to know Anthony, learning about his background, his creative journey, and gaining insight into his work behind the lens. During his visit, students explored the fundamentals of video composition and got hands-on experience shooting with flash, building both confidence and new skills along the way.
To wrap up the session, students put their learning into practice by capturing portraits of Anthony using our Spurs-colored backdrops, a fun and creative way to bring everything together.
Being a mentor is such a meaningful opportunity not only to support students as they grow in their photography journeys, but also to give back and serve the community in a powerful way. We’re so grateful for those who share their time, knowledge, and passion with our youth. ❤️🔥

My Community Service Experience with SAPI
James, a Triumph graduate, has continued to stay engaged with SAPI beyond graduation; serving as one of our most consistent volunteers this semester. From supporting Puro Community events and Green House cleanups to modeling in fashion shows and stepping into advocacy spaces alongside partners like @uppartnershipsa@tpcsanews and @cityeducationpartners
His journey shows how community service can continue to shape growth, build experience, and open new opportunities; even after graduation.
At SAPI, we’re proud to create pathways for students and alumni to stay connected, give back, and keep building their future.

The SAPI Green House hosted its very first Photography Meet-Up! 📸
Local photographers and models came together to create, collaborate, and capture moments both inside and outside the Green House, turning our space into a hub of creativity and connection. This special event was in collaboration with @skyerohanphoto , and we’re incredibly grateful she chose our space to bring the local creative community together.
There’s something powerful about creatives gathering, sharing ideas, and making art in community, and this was just the beginning. We’re already looking forward to the next one.

As part of our ongoing photography workshops, our students stepped out once again last Thursday, this time to explore the SAPI Green House, putting their skills into real-world practice and capturing the vibrant textures, light, and stories around them.
From the bold murals at @eightballcoffee to the meaningful spaces surrounding @sanantoniomennonitechurch , students had the opportunity to see how art, culture, and community intersect through their lens.
We were also excited to welcome @moneyshotphoto back as a mentor for this photowalk. Thank you for continuing to pour into our students, sharing your knowledge, and helping guide their creative growth. We truly appreciate your presence and support!
