Cyber Crimes Division Chief Stewart Hedrick, Human Trafficking Unit Director Justin Funck, Gangs Homicide Prosecutor Ruben Scolavino, and County Court Chief Leonard Thompson presented at the FDIAI Region 5 Training at @mdcollege North Campus. They spoke to Crime Scene Investigators and students about evidence collection and presentation in homicide, human trafficking, and sexual battery cases, as well as best practices for handling digital evidence.

State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, joined by Senator Ileana Garcia, Representative @juancarlosporrasfl , Commissioner @robjgonzalezfl , and members of the SAO HOA/COA Task Force, held a press conference today to address the sentencing of Marglli Gallego and her husband, Jose Antonio Gonzalez, for their roles in the theft and exploitation of the Hammocks Homeowners Association.
Gallego was sentenced to seven years in state prison followed by seven years of probation after pleading guilty to grand theft and racketeering. Gonzalez pleaded guilty to money laundering and will serve seven years of probation. As part of their sentencing agreement, both defendants turned over a Homestead property valued at approximately $1.2 million to the Hammocks HOA and provided a $50,000 check to the association today.
During the press conference, State Attorney Fernandez Rundle underscored the importance of transparency and trust within community associations, emphasizing that residents deserve responsible leadership and financial integrity in their neighborhoods.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Chief of Investigations Emiliano Tamayo, Division Chief of Economic Crimes Anthony Gil, and Assistant Chief of Litigation Mary Ernst for their outstanding work and dedication throughout this case.
