BOMBYLIIDAE (BEE FLIES) The Bombyliidae are a family of flies, commonly known as bee flies. Some are colloquially known as bomber flies. Adults generally feed on nectar and pollen, some being important pollinators. Larvae are mostly parasitoids of other insects. Camera: EOS CANON R6 Mark ii Focal length: CANON EF 100mm with (Raynox DCR-250 mm) Aperture: F11 ISO: 400 Exposure time: 1/250s Flash: #godox860iii Diffuser: @radiantdiffuser #canonindia_official #canonindiaofficial #Macro_wanderer The Bombyliidae are a large family of flies comprising hundreds of genera, but the life cycles of most species are poorly known, or not at all. Their size varies between species ranging from 2 mm long to a 40 mm wingspan making them some of the largest flies. When at rest, many species hold their wings at a characteristic "swept back" angle. Adults generally feed on nectar and pollen, some being important pollinators, often with spectacularly long proboscises adapted to plants such as Lapeirousia species with very long, narrow floral tubes. Unlike butterflies, bee flies hold their proboscis straight, and cannot retract it. Many Bombyliidae superficially resemble bees and accordingly the prevalent common name for a member of the family is bee fly.  Possibly the resemblance is Batesian mimicry, affording the adults some protection from predators.

STINGLESS BEE Stingless bees (SB), sometimes called stingless honey bees or simply meliponines, are a large group of bees (from about 462 to 552 described species), comprising the tribe Meliponini (or subtribe Meliponina according to other authors). They belong in the family Apidae (subfamily Apinae), and are closely related to common honey bees (HB, tribe Apini), orchid bees (tribe Euglossini), and bumblebees (tribe Bombini). These four bee tribes belong to the corbiculate bees' monophyletic group. Meliponines have stingers, but they are highly reduced and cannot be used for defense, though these bees exhibit other defensive behaviors and mechanisms. Meliponines are not the only type of bee incapable of stinging: all male bees and many female bees of several other families, such as Andrenidae and Megachilidae (tribe Dioxyini), also cannot sting. COMMON DOTTED GARDEN SKINK Riopa punctata, also known as the common dotted garden skink, common snake skink, punctate supple skink, or spotted supple skink is a species of skink found in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Young skinks of this species have a distinctive red tail, but this colour is lost in adults. The red tail is replaced by small spots and these spots coalesce to form continuous lines as the individual ages. The dots are present on the head and extends to the snout. WOLF SPIDERS Wolf spiders are members of the family Lycosidae (from Ancient Greek λύκος (lúkos) 'wolf'), named for their robust and agile hunting skills and excellent eyesight. The many genera of wolf spiders range in body size (legs not included) from less than 10 to 35 mm (0.4 to 1.38 in). They have eight eyes arranged in three rows. The bottom row consists of four small eyes, the middle row has two very large eyes (which distinguishes them from the Pisauridae), and the top row has two medium-sized eyes. Unlike most other arachnids, which are generally blind or have poor vision, wolf spiders have excellent eyesight. FROGHOPPER The superfamily Cercopoidea, some members of which are called froghoppers and still others known as spittlebugs, are a group of hemipteran insects in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha. Adults are capable of jumping many times their height and length, giving the group their common name, but many species are best known for their plant-sucking nymphs which produce foam shelters, and are referred to as "spittlebugs". HEAVY-BODIED JUMPER Hyllus semicupreus, the heavy-bodied jumper, also known as the semi-coppered heavy jumper, is a species of spider of the genus Hyllus. It is native to India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. As usual in spider morphology, the female is much larger than male, where the female is about 8–9 mm (0.31–0.35 in) in total length and the male is 7–9 mm (0.28–0.35 in) in length. Camera: EOS CANON R6 Mark ii Focal length: CANON EF 100mm with (Raynox DCR-250 mm) Aperture: F11 ISO: 320 Exposure time: 1/250s Flash: #godox860iii Diffuser: @radiantdiffuser #canonindia_official #canonindiaofficial #Macro_wanderer Hyllus semicupreus, the heavy-bodied jumper, also known as the semi-coppered heavy jumper, is a species of spider of the genus Hyllus. A tiny rider, a slow giant… proof that even the wild has its moments of harmony. KANI BUSHFROG The kani bushfrog or kani brown-eared shrub frog (Pseudophilautus kani) is a small shrub frog species of the genus Pseudophilautus. It is endemic to India, where it has been observed in the Western Ghat mountains and Tamil mountains. The Kani bushfrog has a unique brownish coloration with a distinctive dark patch near its ear, aiding in its camouflage ( Moving or acting in a way that avoids detection ) within forest habitats. The Kani bushfrog is named after the Kani tribal community of Kerala, which played a key role in its discovery. LAND SLUG Slug or land slug is a common name for any apparently shell-less terrestrial gastropod mollusc. The word slug is also often used as part of the common name of any gastropod mollusc that has no shell, a very reduced shell, or only a small internal shell, particularly sea slugs and semi-slugs (this is in contrast to the common name snail, which applies to gastropods that have a coiled shell large enough that they can fully retract their soft parts into it). PLANTHOPPER A planthopper is any insect in the infraorder Fulgoromorpha, in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha a group exceeding 12,500 described species worldwide. The name comes from their remarkable resemblance to leaves and other plants of their environment and that they often "hop" for quick transportation in a similar way to that of grasshoppers. However, planthoppers generally walk very slowly. Distributed worldwide, all members of this group are plant-feeders, though few are considered pests. Fulgoromorphs are most reliably distinguished from the other Auchenorrhyncha by two features: the bifurcate (Y-shaped) anal vein in the forewing, and the thickened, three-segmented antennae, with a generally round or egg-shaped second segment (pedicel) that bears a fine filamentous arista. ROOT WEEVIL The Clay-Coloured Weevil (Otiorhynchus singularis) is a species of root weevil native to Europe, also known as the raspberry weevil, that is a significant pest of various plants, including raspberries, rhododendrons, and conifers. It is a close relative of the black vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus), and both are flightless, nocturnal pests whose larvae cause the most severe damage by feeding on plant roots. PSEUDAPIS BEES Honey bees are not the only bee species that are significant for human wellbeing. Pseudapis bees are a group of native bee species that do not produce honey but are likely to be important pollinators of crops and wild plants. Females have a sting, but they are not aggressive and will only sting if handled. These ground-nesting bees live independently. This fact sheet provides information about these bees to encourage farmers to understand and protect them to help ensure that their crops are effectively pollinated. From a conservation and agricultural standpoint it is not necessary to recognise all the different bee genera. However, it is important to know that there is a large bee biodiversity. Different bee genera pollinate different plant species, although there is some overlap that acts as a buffer as bee populations wax and wane. For healthy ecosystems, including agro-ecosystems both diversity and abundance in the bee fauna is important. THICK-HEADED FLY The insect in the image is a thick-headed fly, specifically from the species Stylogaster neglecta. This fly is part of the family Conopidae and is known for its distinctive appearance, characterized by a slender body, long legs, and large eyes. Members of this genus are notable for being parasitoids; they typically lay their eggs on other insects, such as crickets or cockroaches, often while in flight.
