We’re honored to spotlight Ọ́mọ̀ Ọba (Prince) Adétòmíwá A. Gbadébò - a visionary artist whose work stands at the crossroads of heritage, identity, sustainability and resilience.
Born in Abeokuta, Nigeria, into three distinguished royal lineages the Gbadébò royal family of the Egba Kingdom, the Adémilúyì (Lafogido ruling house) of Ilé-Ifè, and the Oshodi (Tapa) royal family of Lagos with ancestral ties to the Nupe kingdom - his heritage is not just a backdrop but a living force in his work.
Today, Ọ́mọ̀ Ọba Gbadébò is recognized internationally as an artist whose practice moves fluidly between Nigeria and the United States. His creative life is matched by an equally dynamic professional one: he is a businessman, curator, philanthropist, and the Founder/President of ÒRÍIFÁÁ, a global consulting firm, as well as the Founder of the Prince Adetomiwa Gbadebo Cultural Foundation (PAGCF). He also serves as a cultural and museum-affairs liaison to the Egba Kingdom and its monarch, reinforcing his commitment to heritage preservation and cultural diplomacy.
At the heart of his artistic mission is a clear intention: to contribute meaningful, workable solutions to the human pursuit of belonging, justice, sustainability, and self-understanding. His works often operate as bridges between past and present, tradition and innovation, identity and collective memory.
Prince Adétòmíwá Gbadébò is a featured artist in Water No Get Enemy, presented during the preview days of the 61st Venice Biennale. His participation underscores the global relevance of his voice and the resonance of his themes within contemporary discourse.
During the artist talk, he will unveil a brand-new artwork, offering audiences a first encounter with a piece that extends his ongoing exploration of culture, lineage, and the human condition.
Gbadébò is not simply creating art; he is shaping cultural conversations, activating heritage, and inviting the world to imagine more just and interconnected futures.
