after 2 years in the making, this little film for Anna Wise’s song “Mother of Mothers” is out. i’m immensely grateful for the collaboration and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this to life. thank you @annathewise and @godfredceasarsedanoo for truly believing in this from the very beginning. this is for all the mamas in the world. play it loud! let it loop! lol

I took these on August 4th, 2021, a year after the Beirut Port explosion. I wanted to get closer, but I was advised not to. Four years later, there’s still no accountability or justice for the lives lost, the injured, and those still mourning..trying to get by day by day. The country is dealing with an ongoing cycle of corruption that has lead to hyperinflation, unemployment, poverty...mainly political paralysis, yet we yearn to go back no matter what. I was planning on going at the end of last month to see family and friends, but not anymore..for now..for my safety, I am tearing up as I write this. I'll see you soon❤️ I have more images, but I’ll share them later on. It took years to get around to work on them..knowing it would be an emotional experience to look at them for the first time.

In many ways football represents one of the last truly global cultures. However, the business of football is increasingly threatening the beautiful game. The decay of football culture is easy to miss if we emphasize the logic of business: soaring viewership, unprecedented transfer fees, and unrivaled sponsorship deals all point to a sport that’s thriving. So why does it feel like something is wrong? At PURO we believe the beauty in the game is in the people, not in the business. How can we enjoy the game when the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, is handing peace prizes to tyrants and partaking in conferences with the coordinators of genocide. The game, no longer beautiful, has become against the people. It is here we’d like to introduce the “Maranza.” Primarily used to refer to racialized 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants on the outskirts of Milan, often painted as troublemakers and petty criminals, Maranza represents another global culture, the emergent and universal resistance of youth. At PURO we stand for all those who are othered, marginalized, and on the periphery of society. We must resist the tide of tyranny in every avenue of life, in every endeavor. We are not beholden to corporate interests and could never be. We say NO to Trump’s World Cup We say NO to Sportswashing We say NO to Occupation We say NO to War We say yes to the people and dedicate ourselves to uplifting all those who stand on the side of justice domestically and abroad. The beautiful game persists as our ethos. In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out our online blog “PURO TACTICS” to explore how football culture not only reflects the political climate but informs it. I’ve been hesitant to share this but my family cat Chanel 🪽has passed away suddenly. Chanel came into our lives in September 2022. our first pet ever. at first, we weren’t sure we were ready for such a change, but she quickly became the heart of our home. she was incredibly gentle, sweet, and full of quiet love. i want to thank my brother for bringing her into our lives. anyone who knows me knows how long I have wished for a cat, and Chanel was truly a dream come true. she brought solace, laughter, and so much warmth into our family. pets aren’t just pets..they are family. angels. we are devastated by how quickly and unexpectedly we lost her, and we miss her so much..after a lot of thought, we decided cremation didn’t feel right for us. we chose to lay Chanel back into the earth❤️ last image: I was given this poetic note in Arabic at a baby shower 2 days before everything happened, but I didn’t see it until 2 days after Chanel passed. It translates to - when calamity falls, the truths of patience appear, and when destiny is revealed, the truth of acceptance becomes clear. ❤️

Mother of Mothers will be screening at @atlantafilmfestival at the Tara Theatre as part of the Music Video program on May 2, 2025. biggest film festival in Atlanta! If anyone is in Atlanta and would like to experience this in theaters, tickets in my bio! I’ll be out there, too! fun facts: the 1st slide - the entire opening sequence is all filmed in reverse + the frame rate ramped 48fps to 24fps real time + lights dim up + camera push in and out + filmed outdoors and it was cold. a lot of moving parts..i know 😅 but couldn’t have done it without everyone. thank you all for trusting in the process. ❤️ 2nd slide: we also received a badge of honor at the @berlinmusicvideoawards ..while we didn’t make it for the final nomination but appreciate the recognition!

little film for Anna Wise’s song - Mother of Mothers. It centers on the theme of motherhood, conveying the duality of solace and angst with carrying a new life. it’s an intimate yet melancholic journey told through movement, long visual takes and kinetic soundscape. the experience emphasizes the unspoken difficulties faced from sleepless nights to dissociation to loss of personal freedom and identity. my intention was to not to romanticize motherhood but to validate the complexities. the glimpse of color symbolizes hope specifically the rainbow..a genuine sign from above. the butterfly introduces another fantastical element, like a guardian angel, much like the dancers who watch over the family. It represents courage and rebirth..a reflection of the cycles mothers experience with a new life within themselves. it also provides a beacon of hope for future. most importantly, my heart goes out to mothers who are grappling with postpartum depression. To mothers feeling like they’re not doing enough. To mothers caring for their children all on their own. To mothers going through miscarriages. To mothers burying their own children due to g3noc!d3, c0rrupti0n and gun vi0l3nc3.
