This past week, I learned one of the most important lessons⦠Failures and falls are there to teach us something. There are moments and opportunities in life that slip through our fingers, just like waves- weāre so close to reaching our goals and then we fall again. We have to start over. Fight again, push ourselves again. In the meantime, we forget that all of this is meant to build our strength and resilience. We forget to enjoy the whole process and in reality, the only thing holding us back is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of danger, fear of other peopleās opinions and so onā¦
Thatās exactly what surfing taught me. I took a few wipeouts, swallowed a lot of water. I ended up with bruises and scars that now each carry their own story. I was exhausted and those 5ā6 foot waves crashing over my head completely washed me out. It makes you more humble and even more respectful of nature. It makes you realise how small we are, but at the same time, it shows you how much youāre capable of.
But when you finally stand on the board and surrender to the moment the feeling is indescribable. You just have to experience it.
It was an amazing adventure. I fell in love with surfing and this is definitely not the end of my surfing journey! š„¹šāāļøšš“ From the bottom of my heart⦠Thank you! @elsewheresurfcamps ā¤ļø
Iāve always found surfing fascinating and deeply inspiring. I could watch surfers catching waves all day. It looks so effortless, yet it demands so much strength, coordination and balance. Itās not as easy as it seems and it takes years of practice. Itās dangerous but also incredibly fun.
The first time I ever tried to stand on a surfboard (unsuccessfully) was in Peru. Between a few hits to the head and waves that felt way bigger than I was ready for, I probably shouldāve been scared off but instead, I felt inspired. That experience planted a dream- to learn how to surf.
It took some time, but now that dream is slowly becoming reality. Iām currently at a surf camp in Bali, embracing being a complete beginner and loving every second of it.
This morning before class, I watched a group of little kids surfing near the shore. Their energy, joy, and pure excitement filled me up. Today, out there on the board, I felt just like them- catching small waves, falling, getting back up, laughing and living in the moment. I feel so inspired and happy!
āLive in the moment. Live for the moment. Photography is all about life and thereās so many different ways to look at it.ā- these words will stay with me forever. Beautiful evening.
Truly inspiring and humble photographer with a great sense of humour. An extraordinary body of work built over seven decades, and a perspective that continues to shape how I see the world. Thank you Mr. Joel!@joel_meyerowitz
