Rain in NYC is less a deterrent and more an excuse to master the perfect lunch order: might I suggest a pastrami sandwich on rye and a bowl of matzo ball soup that could plausibly cure anything. Add crispy latkes and a potato knish, then wash it down with a cream soda that’s almost certainly pure high-fructose corn syrup in the best possible way. Eisenberg’s, and now @sandplunch , will always be a core memory for me. Before moving to NYC in May of 2003, I had set up a bunch of informational meetings and actual interviews as if I was already living here. ☺️ Once I moved, I was running from one job possibility to the next and passed by this great-looking diner called Eisenberg’s. I had some time in between meetings, so I walked in, got seated at the counter, and ate lunch. I remember looking around and thinking to myself, “Holy shit, I live in NYC!!” I felt so much excitement & joy in that moment and was also thrilled to have discovered such a great spot. It was nice to return recently, this time to @sandplunch , and be transported back to that memory, along with enjoying a killer tuna melt. And just in case you were wondering what I had for lunch back then (nobody was…), I found the menu & business card from that meal (⬅️ to see!). Beli Rating: 9.3/10 I loooooooove a jewish deli. So much. There are so many great options in the city on my list, but one of my favorites is @sandplunch in Flatiron. First come, first serve, typically a single file like against the wall directly behind the bar. Moves pretty quickly but definitely go with a small group so you can sit quickly. They are a well oiled machine, so the wait won’t be THAT long, just have to get lucky 🍀 You can also order and take to go which I’ve done before and the food is equally as fresh (I prefer dining in though) My favorites here are the insane amazing fried latkes, tuna melt, Reuben, matzo ball soup, chicken salad and honestly the black coffee. They of course have other diner classics like omelettes etc etc etc 🍳🍳🍳 This is the perfect weekend morning spot, I just love it 🤤🤤😍😍🥪🥪

S&P Lunch 📍174 5th Ave, New York, NY Another weekend…another brunch! S&P Lunch is an old-school New York spot with a vintage counter, classic deli vibes, and iconic sandwiches like: • Tuna melt: born in the US in the ’60s. Someone threw cheese on a tuna sandwich, melted it, and boom - a classic. • Pastrami sandwich: brought to NYC by Eastern European Jewish immigrants in the late 1800s. Now it’s that iconic deli sandwich on rye with mustard that everyone knows. Highly recommended!
