Normally the place where most engineers switch off is the place where they need to pay most attention⦠rehearsals/soundchecks give you a head start on the mix - make sure you pay attention!
Audio is from a rehearsal at @heavenculturemusic conference with @keerronmusic
Mixed on @allenandheath with @wavesaudio
vocal mic @dpa_microphones
It all looks glamorous until you realise that we only spend 10% of our time mixing and there rest doing these jobs⦠(and this isnāt everything either)š but seriously if you nail these you are winning!!
Personal Mixers can be really useful especially when you youāre dealing with multiple things happening or donāt have a mons engineer however itās important youāre still attentive to the person on the other side of it! Hereās a couple hacks that can help you be more efficient and attentive!

In early 2025 I reflected a lot on how I was approaching my mix and by the end of the year I went back to an old show file and realised how much I had changed. Iām sharing 4 decisions Iāve chose to stick with heading in 2026!
Loved getting to run mons and work with @jrudyjr & the team from @elevation.rhythm this summer @bigchurchfest and over in Europe. genuinely great people and a privilege to do this run with them! This is @ojwill IEM mix š„š®āšØ
Sharing some of my thoughts on my approach to mixing mons to create something inspiring for a musician to play to, a lot of trial and error to build a in ear mix thatās a vibe and feels more like a mix to give the artist context for the whole sound not just part of it.
A vocal is the most important thing in a mix and this is the chain Iāve been running recently that has worked well for me so I thought Iād share - if you try it let me know how you get on
The vocal mic Iām using is a @dpa_microphones 2028 with @wavesaudio only aside from @allenandheath built in source expander on dLive
