'-lessness'
In an age dominated by fleeting trends and an insatiable appetite for the immediate, the notion of timelessness has been eclipsed. Our collective vision has narrowed,
as if blinded by a machine that values the now over the eternal. Samuel Zealey, through his latest body of work, invites us to look beyond this materialistic zeitgeist
and reconnect with deeper, more enduring perspectives.
This exhibition, titled ‘-lessness’, presents new works that embody a concept coined by Zealey himself: a state of being that is limitless and expansive, transcending the
boundaries of time and space.
Drawing inspiration from visionaries like Buckminster Fuller, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and Professor Martin Rees, Zealey bridges the worlds of engineering, art, and science to create a language that is both unique and universal. Central to this exhibition is the 'Plane Series', a homage to Zealey’s earlier explorations of origami. By manipulating scale and material, he transforms metal
into seemingly fragile paper planes, bent and crumpled as if by the careless hands of a child.
These forms, familiar yet monumental, underscore the beauty of the mundane, revealing how simplicity can convey complex narratives. Through his sculptures, Zealey challenges us to reconsider what we deem valuable and beautiful, urging us to look past the surface and reconnect with the timeless essence of our existence. This exhibition is not just a showcase of sculptures but a call to expand our horizons and reimagine our relationship with the world around us.
