Been 20 days since I woke up to a gust of wind that rattled the house. The Santa Ana’s were here early. I’d lose power, so I texted a friend to ask if I could crash at his place. Perrine and Zoey were out of the country. With a deadline in front of me, I packed up my rig, the cats, and called Perrine to ask if there was anything I should grab. If only I’d know what was to come, I’d have taken so much more. That evening, I’d be alerted by another friend of a fire breaking out in the Altadena foothills. Our house appeared on the edge of an evac zone. Surely we were fine, though. We lived in an urban part of town with banks and businesses and concrete, barely by the hills. I’d wake up the following morning to that evac map blown up way beyond our neighborhood, to footage on local news of those banks and businesses burning, and a neighbor’s text saying they tried to stay but embers on our block were overwhelming. It was 24 hours of limbo, agony, not knowing if our house made it. I’d have a friend in the area offer to check on the house, and would receive a text that read ā€œI’m sorry Sam.ā€ I didn’t have to look at the pic, the one above, to know. There aren’t many things like fire that have the power to erase. It’s still hard for me to wrap my head around what happened. I didn’t know you could grieve for a place. Not just our house, but the neighborhood, the town, Altadena. It was ultra charming and unique and where we chose to build our lives, and it was leveled. Perrine and Zoey and I are bouncing around friends’ places while we figure out what’s next, but that’s really been the story: friends and family. The overwhelming response from you has been nothing short of amazing. THANK YOU. We’ll land on our feet and are lucky to have such great community. Not having a home, your stuff, routines and outlets, the place your kid was growing up, it sneaks up on you. It’s all just stuff and we’ll rebuild, probably even better, and that’s all that matters. But I’m not gonna lie, it still sucks. Our spirits are up as we look to the future. Who knows what’s next. Maybe our new light footprint will open up beautiful new opportunities. Thanks for checking in on us 🫶

Over the last four years, we’ve done a lot of crazy things on Radiant Black. At the top of the list, though, has to be when the brilliant @samuel.j.ewing joined us to score the entire first arc of the book. Issue 3 is a personal favorite, with the story designed to explore the creative process, the stops and starts, the frustration and the unintended inspiration. Sam mirrored our ambition, designing this track as an ā€œexploration of a theme.ā€ We recorded the piece with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and the results leave my jaw on the floor to this day. To listen to the full track— and all six pieces by Sam— head to http://radiant.black/music In February, Radiant Black returns with issue 31– a perfect jumping on point as we kick off our ā€œRebuild Eraā€ of The Massive-Verse. Join us as we continue to push the envelope on what a superhero comic book can be! Video by @alecfsiegel #indiecomics #radiantblack #massiveverse #filmscore #superheroes #orchestra

I’m super excited to share something I’ve been up to: composing the score for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. It’s an honor to be a part of Rick and Michonne’s return to the franchise in this six episode series - AIRING TONIGHT ON AMC šŸ¤“šŸŽ¶ I have to thank @bearmccreary who had championed me as a composer on the mothership TWD show, and took it a step further on this one. It is more difficult than you might realize to champion another composer for a franchise which brings you great recognition, yet he did. šŸ™šŸ¼ Excited for the fans to see what we’ve been cooking up! Thanks to the music team for making the score possible: Additional composers: @corey.composer @jessicaraehuber @trevino_lance Orchestration: @tracietcello Mix & Engineering: @echolanemusic @ben_sedano_tinydog Music editor: @theycallmebaber

I’m thrilled to have composed the music for the Valhalla DLC alongside @obz_kenobi and @bearmccreary . We brought back some of Gerard Marino’s hard-hitting Greek themes for the player to #livedierepeat to šŸŽ¶šŸ’„ I’m very proud of what we accomplished for a free ā€œlittleā€ DLC.
