Materials are provided so there’s no need to bring supplies, but, if you have fabric or sequins from home that you would like to use for the project, feel free to take them with you to the workshop! All attendees will walk away with their sequin artwork (with their chosen motifs) in a wooden embroidery hoop. Sewing skills are not necessary to participate; we will only be completing basic stitching in this workshop and learning how to do so will be covered. Class will run from 6-8:30pm with the last 15 minutes reserved for sharing what we made during the workshop 🙂↕️

Look at me, trying out animation!! My god, it is hard!!!!!! My respect for animators has grown tenfold since this project, and it was already pretty high to start with. Will I try it again?? Certainly, it was a fun puzzle for my brain, but not for a while and not without a very motivational idea.

I strive to keep my practice playful and curious, which naturally means that I love to try new mediums. Historically, painting and drawing have been my favorite mediums, but recently, I have been very much enjoying working with sequins. Specifically, sewing sequins by hand on top of a painted canvas, or onto felt in order to create a wearable patch."

tbh i was a bit nervous about designing the puzzle box all by myself and not hiring a real designer but I just kept it simple and it actually turned out pretty okay!!!
If you know me in real life, you know that I am a fiend for jigsaw puzzles!!! The way this puzzle came to fruition is very silly. My friend @erikaschnatz got me into the Speed Puzzling competition that @portlandpuzzle hosts, which are a purely wholesome good time. After attending a few of those events and hearing that they make puzzles themselves, I emailed them and they got back to me with details on how to move forward with them and I thanked them and then sat with the idea for like…….14 months 🫠 i just had no idea which ONE painting or digital illustration of mine to pick!!! And then, boom, early this year it hit me. Make a puzzle of my sequin art, DUH!!!! The colors, the textures, the tiny reflections of light that the sequins throw would all make for a super visually interesting puzzle!
All that to say is that good ideas aren’t always instantaneous, sometimes they need months and months to marinate.
