For the last two days I wasn’t even able to watch these videos without cringing to my voice but I’m posting these because my voice shouldn’t be something I’m cringing to and the people at Melkweg that night should be embarrassed for not singing along as loud. My 2017 spring was full of listening to Bad Suns -mostly Disappear Here album- and the same summer I mostly listened to Waterparks. In 2022 summer I found out they’re touring together and they will play in Amsterdam -a city I always wanted to see- and the next thing I did was to book everything and go there -only for a day lol- so yeah here’s my fav parts from Bad Suns’ performance. How about this for a #fenderfriday huh?! I hope everyone is having a great Friday today. A lot of tender loving care went into this 1965 @fender #jazzmaster for @samplecker It came in with some pretty decent fret divoting going on, as well as the fact that someone had "finished" over the rosewood fretboard at some point. Thankfully, Sam agreed that the finish had to go, and we may as well replace the frets at the same time. Also, when pulling the neck, I found a good old fashion neck shim in there made from some cut off of some pickguard material. I definitely pulled that sucker out, and put in a properly fit, full neck pocket maple shim. I also decided to re-lubricate the tuning machines by injecting some fresh lithium grease into the tuning machines, working the gear through rotations, and repeating a few times to make sure each tuning gear had a decent amount of grease to hold it in good order for hopefully another decade or two. When pulling the frets, the chip out wasn't too bad, and I only had to re-secure or patch a few spots near the fret slots. Someone had actually done a decent job with the previos refret (even though they slopped finish over the board). After installing the new frets and trimming/filing flush, I also decided to round over the freshly planed fretboard edges. I usually would ask how the client felt about this, but i've worked with Sam enough to know that he wants his vintage instrument properly maintained, but also keep the worn in feel from years of playing this instrument has earned. I also double checked to make sure all of the existing harness was indeed all original, and lightly cleaned all electrical contacts while I was in there. From there, it was time to make a new bone nut, install the new @masterybridge and finalize the #setup This Jazzmaster sounds fantastic, and I know it will do great things in the very capable hands of it's owner. Post 2 of 2 Now that you know the story of the pickup plate, here's the rest of the run down. I wish I had remembered to take a before picture, but of course, I must have just went right into complete disassembly in preparation for the work ahead. The first step was drawing up specifications for the pickup mounting plate, then routing the middle pickup position in relation to the draw up. After the route work, I shielded all cavities with nickel super shield paint. Once that was all dry, it was time to get all the wiring prepped and installed. Two Emerson Pro 500k audio pots for the volumes (with treble bleed circuits for both), an Alpha 500k audio push/pull for the neck/middle coil tapping, and a CTS 500k audio push/pull for the bridge pickup coil tapping. An Emerson 0.022uf for the bridge tone, and an Emerson 0.015uf for the neck/middle tone. The first mini switch is a three position switch that sends either the neck, the middle, or both at the same time to the main pickup switch neck position. The second mini switch is a phase switch for the bridge pickup. For the pickups, Sam went with @sonicpickups #crystalpalace neck and middle set, paired with a #sonicpickups #firebird bridge pickup. After that was done (and tested well). It was time to lightly relic the hardware in a tumbler (after taping off all threading). While the parts were tumbling, I removed the stop bar tailpiece holes, glued in dowels, and followed by finish touch up and leveling.
