Happy Mother’s Day, Columbia This Mother’s Day, I want to take a moment to celebrate and thank all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and caregivers across our city who pour their love, strength, and wisdom into the next generation. As the father of two little girls, I am reminded every day that motherhood is both a profound gift and a tireless calling. My wife, @a_johnsonsc , exemplifies that truth. She is an amazing mother to our daughters—leading with patience, humor, and an unwavering sense of purpose—while also serving our community as a dedicated and accomplished lawyer. Watching her balance compassion with determination has deepened my respect not only for her, but for mothers everywhere who carry so much while asking so little in return. One quote that continues to resonate with me is from author Washington Irving: “A mother’s love endures through all.” That enduring love is felt in our homes, our schools, our neighborhoods, and throughout Columbia. It shapes who we are and who we become. To all the mothers in our city—thank you for your sacrifices, your leadership, and your love. May today be filled with appreciation and joy, and may we honor you not just today, but every day. Wishing you all a very Happy Mother’s Day.

Episode 3 of At-Large Moments is here. This month, we covered a lot of ground. From finalizing our short-term rental (STR) ordinance to supporting new ways to connect residents with food resources through a unique partnership with local non-profit Need No More, things have been busy at City Hall. We also began conversations around creating a Business Improvement District, or BID, in the @thevistasc , building on the kind of service and support many of you already see on @mainstcolasc . This past Diwali marked the third consecutive year that South Carolina came together to honor the Festival of Lights, and it is a milestone that deserves recognition.
