Late to the party yet again. Thank you to @edfilmfest for having me last Friday. It was a pleasure working with @seanmorrison64 @itsabbiehills @wysard_wolf @oskabright to bring the first edition of @code.collaboration to life. It was great to have an open conversation around how to build access into independent film production . Hopefully more to come in the future

It is time to welcome another crew member. My name is Sam Oldknow. I am a Disability Consultant and Film Producer on a mission to enable society to see the true power and value of disabled storytellers in front of and behind the camera. I am excited to be joining the My friend Orson Welles team as a Disability Consultant. I will be supporting them to effectively engage with disabled storytellers. First and foremost though I will help them create an authentic character driven disability lead story on screen. Examples of my work in this area is the feature documentary My Everest which premiered at the BFI IMAX in 2023, and the award-winning short film which I also produced called A Perfect Balance of Absolute Chaos. I am excited to work with some more of my fellow disabled creatives to help them bring this story to life. If you haven't already please consider donating to the film's crowdfunder and share it with your network. It can be found in our linktree. #shortfilms #1stad #leeds #orsonwelles #disabled #screenwriter #crowdfunding #myfriendorsonwelles #editor #dop #cinematography #directorofphotography #storyboard #sounddesign #creativeleeds #disabledandproud

I am developing an event where organisations can pitch a slate of ideas and/or their services to the disabled creative communities. Alongside this it aims to make it as easy as possible for non-disabled creatives to collaborate with disabled creatives. To ensure the event serves one of its main purposes of removing barriers preventing them from doing so confidently and consistently, we want to hear from non-disabled producers and production companies in a short interview. Full details of the opportunity attached Any help with this would be greatly appreciated Cheers Sam

Would you take the opportunity to tell a room of disabled people about what you do and /or your current slate of projects with the aim of getting them involved and adding them to your network? If so I am working on something that will allow you to do just that. Stay tuned for more details. Photo me and top class Journalist @p_langton1997

Over the last couple of days I have been @naidex_show What an experience. Was great to meet some industry friends and make some new connections. The most interesting session was around conversations about an individuals reasonable adjustments. I learnt that, when in those conversations ideally you should focus on the challenges an individual may face when doing the job they are hired for rather than having a person's disability being the main conversation driver. This approach is key because not everyone requiring reasonable adjustments is disabled but may still face work based challenges., For example if a crew member has caring responsibilities which could require reasonable adjustments such as adjusted/flexible working times.
