♥️ my super short dance film a part of @mononoawarefilm ‘s community screening. its bound to be a great evening with tons of amazing work ♥️
i shot this on 16mm….edited it with me own two hands and a splicer….and remembered that i absolutely love being behind the camera along the way. much love to my sweetheart @missamirzadances who was the perfect person to star in this little project. endlessly grateful for her trust.
i had such a good time with the nice folks @ mono & all the other filmmakers in the showcase are so incredibly talented. i feel like i finally have the courage to make more films and make films often. i hope to see you there 🥺🫶
FILM STOCK TEST FOR ‘SOLEÁ’ — last week, @bitter_fig and @andykaydee dropped by last minute when i was at the studio to shoot some test stills of the stock we want to use for the dance film. film photography project’s X-Ray film lends to those hazy highlights/halations, rich textures, and dreamy quality we’re looking for. just imagine what it’ll look like with our cast/musicians, location, and proper lighting ☺️
i wanted to take a moment to show yall one of the things we’ve been up to and give my most SINCERE thank you to everyone who has donated to the film. currently drawing a ton of donation portraits & its so lovely to see all the folks who love and care. every single one of you is so appreciated and loved BY MEEE!!! our GFM is still up in my bio for donations— anything helps 🤍🤍🤍
🤍 I am raising money for my next film, SOLEÁ 🤍
A new flamenco dance study— with the talents of Xianix Barrera, Alfonso Cid, and Ricardo Sanchez, and cinematography by the wonderful Kyra Kilfeather.
This past year or so, I’ve been trying to marry the two halves of my life, film & flamenco in any way that I can. SOLEÁ is the next step of that. I am incredibly grateful of all the support & work that has already been put into this project. And now Im asking YOU! for help!!!!
With your support, the donations for SOLEÁ will be prioritized towards cast/crew rates and equipment. I want to respect these artists and technicians’ time and expertise, creating a set environment where everyone is valued and compensated. In addition, since we are shooting on 16mm film, which requires more funding for stock, processing, and compatible camera accessories.
Please take some time to read, share, and possibly donate to the GFM— the link is famously in the bio. If you donate $60 or more, I will draw a little picture of you like the ones seen in the post!!! Just send me a screenshot!
I cannot wait to make this film, I cannot wait to do what I love with the people I love. I feel like such an incredibly lucky person to be surrounded by such amazing and talented artists. Not to mention SWEETHEARTS. 🤍💃🤍
FALSETA: the melodic portion of a flamenco baile where only the guitar plays — the moment to breathe and give yourself some kind of grace. during the falseta, i always find myself dreaming of what my life could be like.
shot on one roll of 500T 16mm film & a couple hours to spare. each splice edited physically.
thank you to my sweet @missamirzadances for sharing herself and her dance with me. the light she brings into every room is palpable through the film chemical stock itself.
@ricarditoguitarra for his masterful & lovely playing as always. danite for holding up a tripod with a bum leg. @xianixbarreraflamenco for the studio + being my flamenca beacon. my big sis @freddie.june for the lights. and @mononoawarefilm for their equipment, time, and processing.
to more films ! 💃♥️
Sam City 2: The Subway Minigame with my favorite outfits. kind of a choose your character selection screen.
thank u to my brother @matthew_labella for helping animate. the outfits, people, subways, sky, and skylines are all separately hand drawn. and yes my fav subway art is the coffee superhero guy.
xianix at the last @alegriaslanacional tablao — caracoles durante una falseta — mixed media animation with pastel / 93 hand-drawn frames— i wanted to create look reminiscent of Carmencita (1894), in which the first woman to ever appear on film was a flamenco dancer
@flamencovivo 2025 certamen residency & competition 🕊️
unlike anything ive ever done! last week, me & a group of of amazing (kind/funny/talented) dancers from all over the world went upstate to train under mentors, culminating in a competition performance back in the city. i laughed, cried, sweat, listened to the twilight soundtrack, ate half my body weight in grapes, and even won a prize. ✨
💖 i love all my friends and XBF family that helped me through the application, audition, practice, residency, and performance process. especially xianix, vale, and mi chiquitita graciela 💖
¡gracias a todos y mucho más baile (emotion AND technique) en el futuro!
