Snuck out of the house and caught a ride to LA for this UK double header with @the_exploited_official and @uksubsofficial . It was also @agnosticfrontnyc first trip to the west coast, and two of Southern California's raunchiest opened. I remember two full scale raging California slam pits and LA Death Squad in full effect. Good times.
Amped to have helped put together another @thrashermag "Death Match." We're bringing it back to Joshua Tree on September 27th at @pappyandharriets . Bands, DJs, Skateboarding, BBQ and more. Tickets on sale this Wednesday. Sells out quick so make a note. Hope to see ya.
Thank you Los Angeles for making last night so special. So many friends old and new. Was an inspiring moment to have these two in conversation. Big thanks to @kevinseconds and Ian for sharing their time and experiences. @braindeadstudiosfairfax for the support, and my brother @joe_nelsonia of @trust_records_company for all the help and heavy lifting in getting this idea off the ground.
Some archaic point & shoot photos I took of Rage Against The Machine on June 17, 1995 at KROQ's "Weenie Roast" in Irvine, CA. Hole, The Ramones, Elastica, White Zombie, Soul Asylum, Rancid, Matthew Sweet and more also played that day. This was just one of a few shows Rage played in 95. We mobbed heavy.
Hyped to have helped put together another @thrashermag "Death Match" this year. We're turning up the heat again in Joshua Tree. Tickets are on sale and will go quick. Act fast. Hope to see a lot of friends out there. 🌵
Stumbled upon some photos of Drive Like Jehu at The Che Cafe in San Diego, CA my longtime friend @pmdrightnow took and had sent to me in 1992 while I was going to college in Oregon. We spent lots of time writing each other and catching up on phone calls in those days. Primarily focusing on the music we were listening to or seeing at the time. I had found out about "Jehu" in the summer of 91, partly due to being a fan of John and Rick's previous band Pitchfork. I had gotten the chance to see them that summer and was completely blown away. I remember picking up the record when it came out and just being absolutely jaw struck by it. It was just in a class of its own at the time, still is.
A few primitive photos I took of Royal Trux at Jabberjaw in Los Angeles, CA in the early 90s somewhere between the "Cats and Dogs" and "Thank You" records. Still not sure the world has entirely caught on to their brilliance, yet?
Found this @gunsnroses ticket stub in my storage closet recently. This is from night 1 of a 4 night run of shows at Perkins Palace in Pasadena, CA in December of 1987. I found out about GnR prior to the band blowing up or even being on MTV by seeing them support @officialcult at the Long Beach Arena earlier that summer on The Cult's "Electric" tour. My friends and I were blown away by them. Just speechless. I remember when The Cult came on after, @ianastburyofficial lectured the local crowd for not knowing who GnR were and applauding their greatness. I bought Appetite For Destruction the following week. When this Perkins Palace show went on sale it was just for one night with @tsol_official opening. They went on to sell 4 nights out with different openers. They absolutely tore the roof off that place. Moral of this story is, get there early and see the openers.
