Anyone can say that they rap. Anyone can say that they dance. Anyone can say that they make art.
Not everyone can say that they have battled to prove how good they are.
HipHop was a culture built by competition. It started in the parks. On June 4th, we are taking it back to THE PARK.
Chukchansi Park: to celebrate a 30+ year legacy of Fresno HipHop.
In my 16 years with the Fresno Grizzlies I rarely ever pushed through promos that were things of personal interest. I cared/care far more about community interest. However, every once in a while I gotta put on for my cultureā¦and last year that is exactly what I did.
Happy Air Max Day to those who celebrate.
As many of you know, I have one of, if not thee, largest collections of vintage Fresno State merchandise on the planet. The majority of that being, merch with the Bulldog logo created in 1981 by Mr. Joseph Guadalupe Garcia.
Today I finally got a chance to meet the 95 year old legend. Not only did I get to hear stories about the numerous timeless icons he has created for the valley (the Bulldog logo, the Johnny Quik logo, and more) I also got to hear stories about Fresno history that even predates him. Joseph Garcia is also an accomplished writer on the subject of Fresno/Central Valley History.
I myself am also a fan of Central Valley history, so naturally I purchased some of his books on the subject. These books not only contain stories of Fresno history they also have illustrations and artwork by Joesph Garcia.
To my surprise, one of the books I purchased from him, contained a painting of my great great great grandmother, that he had painted!!!
Coincidental? Maybeā¦but I will take it sign that I need to finish my Fresno State Merch history book.
Shouts out to Joesph Garcia for not only chronicling Central Valley History, but also contributing to it massively. You are an inspiration to what I aspire to be šš¾
