What happens when a Footlight graduates? Sameera Bhaltora Bowers is asking just that in her Brighton Fringe show “What Is Going On?”.
Fresh from sell-out runs at Cambridge and Camden Fringe and critical acclaim, the West End New Act of the Year finalist is out there asking all the right questions. Catch her at the Rotunda Theatre, Brighton Squeak: 1–3 May & 7–9 May. Tickets £11 (concessions £8.50). Link in bio of @sameera_has_questions
💥 WOW! What a time! Thank you everyone who came to my solo comedy show “What Is Going On?” at the Camden Fringe. I couldn’t have asked for it to have gone better. 3 sell-out shows, lots of laughter, great reviews and a standing ovation.
A particular thank you must go to a few people! @zoec.edwards for being amazing at operating my tech, keeping me calm, being so cool and being so supportive and fun to hang out with. @ma_rg_a_ret my producer who stayed with me through the whole run making sure I was ok, helping me out and always being there for me and such a reliable, fun and supportive friend. @impersonaldominic for helping me with this show from the very beginning, always being helpful, kind, having great ideas, laughing loudly and believing in me.
And thank you to all of my friends who came from all over the place to come and see the show and who had a beer with me afterwards! I’m sure this isn’t the end of “What Is Going On?” - this run has certainly encouraged me to keep on performing this show!!
Don’t know what’s next? Neither did Pembroke alumna and former Footlights' member, Sameera Bhalotra Bowers (2022). Her one-hour, one-woman comedy show, ‘What Is Going On?’ is running for three nights only at the Camden Fringe, 21–23 August, at the Etcetera Theatre.
Bringing together poetry, puppetry, stand-up, and song, Sameera brings a fresh take on life after university. “I wanted to try out things I wasn’t sure were going to work. There’s no boundary to what you can do, and audiences tend to find that exciting” she said.
The show explores the challenge of finding your path after graduation and is the perfect reminder that it’s okay not to have it all figured out. At its core, it’s a show about living in the moment, talking to your loved ones, and remembering you don’t need all the answers right now!
Sameera has been supported by our Pembroke Online Community (available to all alumni), where she connected with comedian Mark Bittlestone (2012). If you’re a current student, there are similar opportunities through our LEAP programme – so remember to check it out!
In London this week? Come and see ‘What Is Going On?’ from tomorrow night @thecamdenfringe .
You too, can dive into the community spirit of Pembroke and explore our mentorship opportunities on our website.
