1:400 Scale HONG KONG KAI TAK AIRPORT- Check out this mechanical gearing system that actually moves the planes!
Made by- AvPro designs: Brian Keene
Kai Tak Airport opened in 1925 on reclaimed land jutting into Victoria Harbour, evolving from a small airstrip into one of the busiest and most technically demanding international airports in the world. Its single runway (13/31) was hemmed in by mountains and dense urban development, which forced aircraft to execute the famous low-altitude visual maneuver guided by the checkerboard marker on a hillside—one of the last major commercial approaches requiring that level of manual precision. During Hong Kong’s rapid economic rise in the late 20th century, Kai Tak became a critical global gateway, handling tens of millions of passengers despite severe space and noise constraints. By the 1990s, safety margins and capacity limits made replacement unavoidable, and operations ceased in 1998, transferring to the newly built Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. Today, Kai Tak remains a case study in operational complexity, human factors, and the limits of infrastructure embedded within a megacity. #airplane #aviation #avgeek

I had the opportunity to visit Lufthansa Technik in the Philippines and witnessed probably the last heavy maintenance of Lufthansa A340-600. The LH A346 will be phased out after summer schedule if no further extension.
Seeing the inner workings of MRO is truly fascinating, a lot to tell in my upcoming vlog. Kudos to all technicians and engineers who make flying safe. ✈️
