A little while ago I got to travel to Norway to shoot a film with an incredibly close friend and Director @samuel_askland_gordon It was one of the most fulfilling short films, especially having had read earlier drafts that Sam developed years ago. With a stellar Norwegian cast and crew fiercely led by Producer Geir Bergersen @filmiac I’m so thankful to have been a part of this and equally excited that the film, ‘Myra’ is getting to premiere at the prestigious ‘Norwegian International Film Festival’ in Haugesund. Some more stills, BTS and general love for the incredible Camera/G&E team on @cruelty.film Big night exterior junkyard locations (also with 2 x 270 degree shots) on a budget are always difficult but without the drive and skill level from this team, this film wouldn’t be what it is! I’m a big fan of making big overhead diagrams that I can email ahead or airdrop changes on the fly- I find its the easiest way for me to communicate with other departments. Key Grip @patrick_a_hyatt sent his drone up during the location scout, to get an overhead still that we sent to every department and that @rohini_jadhav , @samdas1219 , 1st AD Jonny Vance and myself could sketch on during pre-production to talk through how to build and design the sets with the cars, and which pieces needed to be moved or brought in and in what order during the two prep days art department had to work with. For most of the night work we rigged two Aputures 1200Ds thru various grid cloths on a 80’ condor with additional 600C lamps off to the sides- that way we could turn on and off a background light to extend our moonlight beyond the area we wanted shaped and could also control it from not being frontal during the long 270 degree shots. This was then supplemented by tall stands and well placed menace arm units scattered through the entire location. A little reliance on SFX smoke tubes did the rest.
