Our annual fixture against the Thanet lads in memory of our great friend Ash Breeze was another huge success. A competitive game and amazingly this year no injuries. Massive thanks to @baypointfitnessandsports @glenn_moore5 and everyone who got involved. Got my hands on the silverwear but only to hand it over to Glenn… (yet again).

In the latest episode of Spare a Thought, I’m excited to share a conversation I had with @sam_cullis Executive Director of the @londonbreezefilmfestival discuss the topic of filmmakers of the future. Sam is my former film studies teacher from secondary school, so it was great to catch up after so many years. Through our conversation Sam shares his experience of getting into the film industry and, through the festivals, explains how he is now helping support a new generation of filmmakers. London Breeze Film Festival is taking place between 22nd - 26 October in locations across London. Spare a Thought is a @bethechangemedianetwork production, created and hosted by me, @sparetom The link to the show is in my bio #film #education #future #teaching

Celebrating a Decade of Cinematic Vision: Sam Cullis & London Breeze: Thanks to James Mulkeen for SheffieldDoc photo. What a pleasure reconnecting with my old friend @SamCullis at @sheffielddocfest ! For ten transformative years, Sam has: Elevated @LondonBreezeFF from grassroots beginnings to a BIFA-qualifying force Championed multiracial storytelling through initiatives like: - The Young Black Filmmakers Fund (with TikTok) - Iraqi cinema collaborations (like Maythem Ridha’s BAFTA-qualifying Ali and His Miracle Sheep - Refugee narratives & global partnerships At Sheffield, we witnessed how Sam’s vision resonates globally: Collateral Echoes (Baff Akoto) - memorializing Black & immigrant lives The Changemakers (Alice Aedy) - spotlighting women reshaping narratives. His secret? A radical ethos: “Nurturing the next generation” through: •Mentorship programs •Industry-access workshops •Venues from Battersea to the Ritzy As LBFF enters its 10th year, Sam proves cinema isn’t just stories—it’s ‘action’. Here’s to a decade more of: Films that challenge power Voices that demand equity A festival that grows with its community. #FilmForChange #DecadeOfBreeze #jamesmulkeen

Enjoyed a fantastic evening at the @bafta qualifying @bufilmfest Selection Event. We were proud to announce the Young Black Filmmakers Fund to a packed audience - our exciting new initiative in partnership with @tiktok offering 10k to support the next generation of Black talent in film. @alexkayodekay who conceived the idea alongside @sam_cullis Exec Director of @londonbreezefilmfestival discussed with @emmanuelanyiamosigwembe the importance of the fund and how Buff, who are now partnering, can help push the fund to new audiences by screening and giving @bafta accreditation to the winner. The evening also featured an incredible line-up of screenings and announcements including Brown Brit an inspiring documentary following a woman’s journey from an arranged marriage in 1987 India. The much-anticipated reveal of this year’s official selections for the 2025 British Urban Film Festival and Under The Gun the acting debut of world heavyweight boxing champion @davidhaye , featuring Kevin McNally. Grateful to be part of an evening celebrating diverse voices, fearless storytelling, and the future of Black filmmaking. #BUFF2025 #YoungBlackFilmmakersFund #DiversityInFilm #BritishUrbanFilmFestival #FilmIndustry #RepresentationMatters
