Three days ago, we wrapped ‘The Kingdom of Rexmonte’ after 36 days of principal photography. 72 hours later, my back still hurts, I’m still finding dirt everywhere, and I’m still anxiously staring at the sky, clocking the beautiful yet mischievous inconsistencies of light.
I’ve been dodging acorns on the sidewalk (Cause my brain thinks it’s goat poop), bumping into people on the train (Cause I haven’t been moving as quickly lately), and smiling at people a little longer as of late after having such a loving experience.
This cast and crew consisted of some of the most daringly unique and loving people that I’ve ever had the privilege to stand besides. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to every single person that I spent time with on this movie.

“Cross Canyon” follows pilot @johnpetrehn as he flies across the Grand Canyon in a hot air balloon.
Fun fact - John uses turning vents in the hot air balloon to rotate the hanging camera and pan across the canyon… so he’s actually a camera operator as well!

A photo study I attempted for class this past spring. With so much uncertainty about COVID, I tried to observe how much contact we actually share in drive-thru’s.
I didn’t get either of these people’s names, but they were both very friendly.

The man in the first two was waiting outside while his wife was in court across the street. He had just gotten out of a job interview for the sous-chef position at the Marriott. His favorite foods to cook are barbecue and French.

The woman in the second two had recently joined a club for painting watercolors. She is afraid to paint, but has been going to museums for inspiration.
3/25/19 at Port Authority Terminal - I was watching people say goodbyes and sprint for the PATH trains when a security officer asked me if that was my yellow bag on the ground. I started to leave until I watched her suspiciously glance inside of it and head for a phone. She seemed to be calling Police, but all I heard was that “something in it looks like a wire.” I stuck around. People ran right past it while others stood right next to it, totally oblivious to what she was guarding. Everything seemed to be fine in the end, but it was chilling to watch this woman perform the most important part of her job while nobody even noticed.
Balloons pop much easier in the sun because they expand in the heat. I learned this after impulsively capturing a stranger delivering some from W4 to 57th St. He noticed me after awhile, and I eventually was able to help him find the building and stay until the handoff. He truly was a pro at his job, and I learned a few things about proper balloon care.
