Wrote this song for my son right before he was born. I like this opening guitar riff a lot… #songwriter #homestudio #newmusic #musicproducers #newdad

Today for Bandcamp Friday I’d like to share a song called Baby Boy that I wrote for my son. I wrote it right before he was born, knowing about his heart condition and feeling uncertain and afraid about what the future would bring. The song is basically a pledge to always be by his side and take care of him no matter what. With him being 6.5 months old now and having gone through what he’s been through, it feels as relevant as ever. Mastered by Adam Gilmour, charcoal drawing by Maggie. I’m going to share a new song every Bandcamp Friday this year so this is the first of 8. Any proceeds for this one will go to a nonprofit that operates out of Lurie Children’s Hospital and helps families of kids with congenital heart defects. Link in bio for Bandcamp and it’s also on streaming.

New song called VILLAGE out today on my Bandcamp Written recorded mixed etc by me, mastered by @adam_gilmour . Streaming on Friday… Lots of people liked the bass on this from a previous Reel, I wish I could say there’s more of a secret to it but it’s completely dry except for light 1176 style hardware compression on the way in. It’s a semi hollow bass played with a pick and a foam mute. It’s just a really good sounding instrument @laklandbasses #songwriter #newmusic #bass #homestudio #musicproducers

So very glad this little boy is home for the holidays 🎄 Just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with words of support and love over the last ~9 months since we got Oscar’s diagnosis and have been on this journey to get his heart repaired and get him home and healthy. It’s still unbelievable to me that the repair is behind us and we have a chance to be a normal family now. Oscar will need another procedure or two as he ages but with any luck these will be less invasive and less of a big deal. Happy holidays to all and we truly truly appreciate all of you 💜

On Friday July 18th at 9:20 AM, Oscar joined our family! We love him so much. He has deep blue eyes, very light hair, loves to drink milk and listen to all the boomer rock I have exposed him to so far. Saxophones in particular make his ears perk up. Oscar was born with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot that was diagnosed in utero. The cardiologists didn’t know how stable he would be when he arrived, but so far his oxygen levels have been good, and amazingly he was able to come home with us after only 3 days in the Lurie CICU. Still though, we are watching him closely and he will need a full repair open heart surgery when he is 3-6 months old. Any and all good vibes, prayers and well wishes are appreciated for this little one. The doctors are very confident he will pull through this but it’s still scary. If I could trade places with him and go through it myself to spare him of it, I absolutely would. I also want to recognize we are in an extremely fortunate position where we have good insurance, access to quite literally the nation’s best hospitals, and an incredible family support system. Not everyone is so lucky. Even though we have been dealt this hand, we feel extremely well supported. Some families are not in the position we are, and there are some great nonprofits that operate out of our hospital (Lurie) to help parents and kids in need. I will link some of those in my bio. With everything this guy has been through and has ahead of him, we’re gonna throw him a huge 1st birthday bash once the dust has settled. Every day I think about that moment and how proud of him I am, already. Love you forever Oscar. ♥️
