These guys were all over the place at Box Springs Mountain Reserve. The first time I saw them was in Borrego Springs a couple of months ago, so I had no idea you could find them this close to LA.

This cave is so big that the entire ferry was able to fit inside!
On our way back to Ventura Harbor, the captain made a detour to Painted Cave. An unexpected stop, and easily one of the best ways the trip could have ended.

A few other bird species native to Santa Rosa Island
1. Channel Islands song sparrow
2. Pacific-slope flycatcher
3. Male Horned lark
4. Female Horned lark
5. Spotted towhee
For a while now, I’ve realized that I tend to overlook gulls. When I visited Santa Rosa Island, though, I decided to spend some time photographing them. They’re amazing animals that often go under appreciated, probably because they’re so common and are usually seen stealing food in videos. Still, it was rewarding to slow down and simply observe them.
