I grabbed @mille.petrozza „Deathscream“ overdrive pedal and played around with it a bit.
He uses this pedal in the studio with his amps and on the road with his Kemper.
It’s actually very versatile and is designed to make the signal warmer and enhanced.
I tried to do the exact opposite: make it cold, harsh and nasty.
I used my ESP with EMG 81 as a reference.
Should I test other products from KHDK and WARHEAD?

Throwback to a 2009 Build: Reworked Laney Klipp with CAE-style Mod & Voicing Control
Today I thought I’d take a look back at an amp I worked on way back in 2009 — a heavily reworked Laney Klipp that came to me in pretty rough shape. It wasn’t just worn out; someone had already tried some DIY mods, so in the end, all that was really usable was the chassis and transformers.
I’d already built an amp with this same custom circuit for Miloš Doležal, and the owner of this Laney heard it at Miloš’s studio. He liked it enough to order the same rebuild from me.
The new circuit is based on the CAE 100, with one key addition:
a six-position rotary switch I dubbed (rather mysteriously) VOICING.
Its function is very similar to the F.A.C. (Frequency-Adjusted Contour) control found on vintage Orange amps. Here’s how an AI language model explained the F.A.C. concept, which actually sums it up really well:
“The FAC switch on Orange amps is a tone-shaping control that adjusts the frequency response before the distortion stage.
It typically has six positions that control how much bass and mids get pushed into the gain stage — meaning it shapes the character of the distortion, not just the final EQ.
Lower settings (1–2) are fat, heavy, and bassy — great for doom, stoner, sludge.
Higher settings (5–6) are brighter, tighter, and cut more — better for fast or articulate gain tones.”
That pretty much nails what the VOICING control does on this build.
Anyway — the amp eventually changed hands and, via Hugo Trkal (The Atavists), it made its way to Alex Fonar of acidrow.
I met with them yesterday in České Budějovice and finally got to hear the amp again — and I was absolutely blown away.
Alex is running it with a bass cab and a bass guitar (!) — and what came out of that setup blew me away.
Sixteen years later, I got to feel proud of the same project all over again.
