Director’s Statement
I grew up within Catholicism, where I was taught that every human being is born carrying Original Sin — a sin believed to have begun with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. A sin committed long before we were born, yet one that we are told we inherit.
As a child, faith arrived together with guilt. Confession, retreats, and spiritual teachings shaped my understanding of the world, often defining the boundaries of the body, desire, and thought. Stories from ancient texts were presented as timeless truths, guiding how one should live, love, and even feel.
Over time, I began to question these inherited narratives — the authority that names sin, and the fear that sometimes accompanies faith.
SINNER emerges from that questioning.
It is a personal reflection on guilt, belief, and the silent weight carried by many who grow up within strict religious frameworks. The film does not attempt to reject faith, but to look at it honestly — to separate spirituality from the structures that shape it.
In that space between belief and doubt, this film was born.
