Here is one way to both build up thick material and also bridge a wide gap. You can build it in multiple passes and stitch it in to create the width while creating a nice cosmetic weld.

Using a large two point fly cutter allows us to resurface the cases on a single pass. We are also using a rotary table so we can rotate the cases and deck the mounts by rotating it 180 from our original zero.
