Michael Jackson and his pet, Bubbles. Bubbles was adopted in the 1980s and the two became inseperable for years. Bubbles would travel with MJ on tours, be in the studio with him and sit beside him during interviews. Bubbles quickly became somewhat a pop culture icon himself, being seen with Michael so often. Today bubbles is 43 years old and lives in a care shelter in Florida, where he enjoys a quiet retirement from the famous life.

The QR code was invented in 1994 by Masahiro Hara to track auto parts for Toyota. Hara’s inspiration for the design came from the black and white grid structure of the game Go, a popular Japanese strategy game. Unlike traditional barcodes, QR codes could store much more information and be scanned at high speed from any direction. Hara also decided against charging licensing fees, making the technology free to the world. The QR code is very durable and can be up to 30% damaged or obscured and still be scanned correctly. Today they are used for everything and it’s hard to spend a day outside without seeing one.

‘The Kiss’ (1908) is one of the most famous paintings by artist Gustav Klimt. It was given a street recreation by Fabian Bogi on the wall of a previous Klimt restaurant. Known for its shimmering gold tones, intricate patterns, and emotional intimacy, the painting has become an enduring symbol of love and passion in the art world. The original painting was bought by the Austrian government before it was even finished and now resides in Belvedere Museum, where it remains one of the museum’s most treasured attractions and a highlight of Austrian cultural heritage.

Gum tattooing has been practiced for generations in parts of Ethiopia and Sudan, where dark gums were traditionally seen as beautiful and symbolic of identity or status. Today, full gum blackout appears mostly in body modification culture, with tattoo pigment applied directly to oral tissue. Unlike skin tattoos, the procedure is highly unpredictable due to the mouth’s constant moisture and bacteria. The risks are significant, including infections, inflammation, gum recession and pigment spread, making it far more unpredictable than tattoing the skin.

The Ordinary’s new campaign takes aim at the beauty industry with a pop-up concept, “The Markup Marché”: a conceptual grocery store where everyday items are rebranded and overpriced to mirror how skincare is often marketed as “lifechanging” products and then sold at a very high price. The brand has long been known for doing campaigns that actually call out the beauty industry and the tactics that brands use to get customers, whether it’s empty promises to impossible standards and overhyped language. By turning bananas into “All-Natural Magical Energy-Boosting Bars” for $175 and avocados into “Glow-Enhancing Vitality Orbs” for $305, the campaign highlights how language, packaging, and perception (not product quality or ingredients) drive markups of prices up to 12x. Designed as an immersive space across six major global cities, the pop up encourages consumers to question what they’re really paying for, and to rethink the gap between ingredient value and marketing hype in beauty.
