On January 20, 2026, we celebrated #10YearsOfSafeUT—marking a decade of strengthening youth mental health, preventing suicide, and improving school safety across Utah. A milestone built on early intervention, trusted partnerships, and lives saved 💙🧠
Born from statewide collaboration in 2014 and officially launched in 2016, the SafeUT app connects Utah’s students, parents, and educators to licensed mental health professionals employed by
@uofuhmhi at
@uofuhealth . Today, SafeUT services are available via mobile app, Chromebooks, and other web-enabled devices through SafeUT.org, offering confidential crisis counseling, an integral pathway to report school safety concerns, and critical mental health resources.
SafeUT has grown into a national model for crisis support. Over the past decade, SafeUT has recorded nearly 330,000 app downloads, supported more than 200,000 K-12 and higher education chats, received more than 80,000 school safety tips, and facilitated more than 2,700 emergency interventions.
Thank you to everyone who made this celebration possible—especially our hosts
@utahago and the SafeUT Commission—and to those who shared their powerful reflections: Ric Cantrell, Chair of the SafeUT Commission;
@agderekbrown ; David Eldredge, Chief Administrative Officer of Huntsman Mental Health Institute; and Shelby McDonald, who first used SafeUT as a high school student to save her best friend’s life and now serves her community as a nurse ✨
