George Hibberd, Safe Landing co-founder, spoke to Zack Polanski, the new leader of the Green Party of England and Wales. Zack assured aviation workers that the Greens will prioritise aviation workers and uplift their voices in how our industry transforms in the coming years to tackle the climate crisis through deliberative assemblies.

โ›ฝ Today Safe Landing joined other environment and transport organisations (T&E UK, Possible, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace UK) proposing government action on aviation and road transport as oil and gas markets tighten during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Finlay Asher, aerospace engineer and think tank lead at Safe Landing commented: โ€œOil supply has tightened at exactly the moment demand for flights is surging ahead of the summer holiday season. When fuel supplies are squeezed, itโ€™s ordinary passengers who risk being priced out first, unless governments step in to manage the situation fairly. The key question is not whether demand reduces, but whose demand reduces - and how we protect fair access to flying.โ€ ๐Ÿ“ฐ Full story in The Guardian: /environment/2026/may/15/ban-private-jets-cut-speed-limits-uk-fuel-crisis #oilcrisis #airtravel #jetfuel #shortage #energy #policy #sustainableaviation #industry

we appeared on this recent RTร‰ documentary about the story of Ryanair, now Europe's largest airline. ๐Ÿ“บ Watch the full segment here: safe-landing.org/ryanair-documentary It's impossible to tell the story of Ryanair, without featuring their out-spoken CEO Michael O'Leary who has masterminded the rampant growth of the airline - while also playing down the environmental impact of our industry. โœˆ๏ธ As Finlay discusses in the documentary: we love flying, it's a magical experience, and one that we want to safeguard for future generations. Michael's and Ryanair's legacy will not just lie in their returns delivered to shareholders, or their peaks in air traffic growth, but also how they have contributed to the transition of aviation away from fossil fuels. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Michael is undeniably a talented communicator. ๐ŸŒ Having his mind focused on how we solve one of the biggest crises facing our generation would be very exciting in terms of what's possible in aviation and we think that would be a great legacy for him to look back on. ๐Ÿ™ We invite him to step-up to the plate, and we'll always be here to chat if he's keen to collaborate on this: [email protected] ๐Ÿ‘‰ If you're interested in collaborating with Safe Landing yourself, send us an email, and join our community using the form on our homepage: safe-landing.org #sustainable #aviation #airtravel #airline #growth #ryanair

๐Ÿ‘จโ€โœˆ๏ธ Safe Landing Airside Chat: Planet Sky recording ๐Ÿ’ฌ In discussion with: Claudia del Prado Sartorius, Matrice โœˆ๏ธ What are the possible futures of aviation? Climate action is increasingly urgent. How can we define desirable futures for aviation? Four graphic novel authors have explored this question. With the help of Matrice, a center for technological and social innovation, they drew on the reflections of researchers, specialists, industrialists and even users to design stories illustrating four prospective scenarios for 2050. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Watch the full video on our website - link in our bio.

Yesterday was a milestone for the work Iโ€™ve been doing with @safe_landing . We delivered a Climate Fresk workshop to 20 members of our community of aviation workers and enthusiasts, including pilots, students, air traffic professionals, academics, and others who deeply want to see the changes so badly needed for flying to have a positive and truly sustainable future. This workshop was exploring aviation and climate change - understanding the science to help shape the future, based upon 4 key questions for people within this community: โ“How do you navigate the complex and sometimes overwhelming issue of climate change? โ“Where do you start when trying to make sense of the science? โ“Do you feel a tension between your love of aviation and concern for its environmental impact? โ“Where can you explore these questions without judgment or pressure? As a former airline pilot myself, I made the difficult decision to stop flying due to my concerns for its environmental impact, and what I perceived to be unviable plans to decarbonise. As a third generation of pilots in my family, I will always have a love for flying and I know that we urgently need to change course if it is to have a place in a liveable future. I also know that to achieve this we must engage the workers, rather than alienate them and we plan to use this tool to positively engage people from within the sector, and ultimately to put pressure on decision makers. The great news is that the @thegreenparty are leading the way in terms of sustainable aviation policy. They recognise the prevalence of green wash that make up the majority of existing jet zero policies and have engaged with Safe Landing to demonstrate what truly sustainable aviation policy looks like. And as a party who also support deliberative democracy, we have a chance to show how workers assemblies can help us to navigate the complexities of decarbonising this sector. All the solutions are known, possible and desirable. We need political parties who are willing to build policies based on truth and science and to support worker engagement to make these solutions a reality before itโ€™s too late. #aviation #sustainableaviation #climatechange

โœˆ๏ธ Aviation Policy Assembly Join us at Safe Landing for a mini-assembly discussing the Green Party of England and Wales' proposed new aviation policy. Presenting the policy proposals is the policy's lead author and Safe Landing co-founder George Hibberd. ๐Ÿ“… Thu 28th May 19:00 - 21:00 UK time ๐Ÿ“ Zoom online ๐Ÿ‘‰ Register for free - link in our bio. George has been leading a small team of authors writing this policy over the last few months with the aim to take these policy proposals to the Green Party's autumn conference in October 2026. The policy is at the stage where it has gone to external consultation. The Green Party is very keen to hear your thoughts as aviation workers and enthusiasts on their new bold policy proposals. This is your chance to impact a prominent political party rapidly rising in the polls on the back of a policy agenda based around wealth redistribution and decarbonisation. We are very excited to discuss policies such as strengthening the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, fuel taxation, a frequent flyer levy, workers assemblies and contrail avoidance and mitigation. You don't have to be from the UK to join. We want to hear from as many of you as possible! โš ๏ธ Note: as an organisation, Safe Landing is non-party political and we do not support any particular party over another. We will bring these policy proposals, developed with our Safe Landing community, to any political party in the UK, or elsewhere, who is interested in engaging with us.
