Today, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice and resilience of all those who have served, and continue to serve. On Anzac Day, we reflect not only on the people who stood together in the face of adversity, but also on the animals who served beside them. From loyal dogs to brave horses, these animals gave comfort, companionship and support when it was needed most. At SAFE, we see that same bond every day. The connection between people and animals is powerful. It brings strength, healing and hope, even in the most difficult times. Today, we remember them all. Lest we forget. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

Sometimes a project comes along that feels truly guided 💚 Clare Andersen was “called” to create The Greenbloods, an incredible publication bringing together inspiring stories from a wide range of people who have connected with nature in deeply meaningful ways. At the heart of these stories is transformation, and the many ways people reconnect with the world around them. From explorers and divers to artists, horticulturists and those passionate about plants and animals, this book represents so many beautiful perspectives and lived experiences. It is also very special to see connections so close to SAFE within its pages. Acclaimed author Melody Horrill shares her powerful story, including her bond with a wild injured dolphin, also told in her book A Dolphin Called Jock. Melody has also been part of sharing the human animal bond through her work, something we see every day within SAFE. One of our own, Sue Lennard, has also contributed, sharing her story of community gardening and her passion for reconnecting people to land, food and each other. This is such a beautiful reflection of what SAFE stands for beyond just rescuing animals, it is about connection, community and care. I have also felt incredibly grateful to be included and to have the opportunity to share some of SAFE’s messages with a wider audience. There is something very powerful in the idea that when there is a genuine need for positive change, the right people come together to make that happen. Clare has brought this project to life with such dedication, weaving together stories filled with inspiration, love and a deep respect for our planet and all living beings. If you feel drawn to reconnect, this is a beautiful and meaningful read. Sue, SAFE Founder You can find The Greenbloods here: .au/Greenbloods-Guiding-us-Home/dp/1764449401

🚗🐾 Help Us Drive Rescue Animals Across Perth 🐾🚗 SAFE is building a small team of reliable volunteers in Perth who can help with occasional animal transport. These trips might include • Airport pickups • Vet visits • Moving animals between foster homes • Transfers to partner organisations • Helping cats and dogs get to the next step in their journey Sometimes it is a short drive across town. Sometimes it is helping a nervous traveller get safely from the airport to their next destination. Every trip helps keep the rescue chain moving. You do not need special experience, just • A reliable vehicle • A calm approach to animals • A willingness to help when you can All animals are transported securely in crates or with appropriate restraints, and SAFE will provide clear instructions before each trip. If you would like to be part of the SAFE Transport Team in Perth, we would love to hear from you. 📩 Please email [email protected] to register your interest or complete our volunteer form /asmservice?account=sn3299&method=online_form_html&formid=51 Sometimes the most important rescue work is simply getting an animal safely from A to B. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

📊 Did You Know? Let’s Talk Numbers… In 2025, across our 10 SAFE branches, we welcomed 1,535 dogs and puppies into foster care. Here’s the part that stopped us in our tracks… 🐾 875 were under 6 months old 🐾 364 were between 6 months and 2 years 🐾 229 were 2 to 7 years 🐾 67 were 7+ years That means 81% of the dogs entering SAFE were under two years of age. So here’s our question for you 👇 Why do you think so many of the dogs coming into rescue are puppies and very young dogs? Is it: 👉 Accidental litters? 👉 Delayed desexing? 👉Cost of living pressures? 👉Lack of access to vet services in regional areas? 👉Lack of owner education? 👉 Something else? We would genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Because behind every number is a young dog who didn’t choose their circumstances. Desexing is not just a personal choice. It is one of the most powerful ways we can reduce overpopulation, prevent unplanned litters, and ease the pressure on rescue organisations across Australia. If more than half of intake is puppies, the issue starts long before rescue is involved. Prevention changes everything. Let’s have a respectful conversation 💙 #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

Let's have some Sunday shenanigans 💙 We’ve jumped on the trend, SAFE style… and now it’s your turn. Can you guess who this familiar face is? This very special person has helped shape SAFE into what it is today. She’s a gentle soul, a big cat lover, and someone whose passion has helped thousands of animals find safety and care. Drop your guess in the comments and see if you’re right. Then join the fun. Create your own cartoon-style rescue character, post it in the comments, and let’s see who we can recognise across the SAFE community. Volunteers, adopters, foster carers, supporters, we’d love to see you all join in. Let’s fill the comments with smiling faces and wagging tails. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit #SundayShenanigans

🚗🐱 UBER… BUT MAKE IT CATS 🐱🚗 Do you enjoy driving? Do you like cats? Have you ever thought, “I wish my passengers were quieter and covered in fur”? Excellent. We have the volunteer role for you. SAFE HQ is creating a Transport Team to help shuttle our feline travellers between Perth Airport and Cat Haven in Shenton Park plus other locations, Think of it as Uber… But your riders travel in crates Do not argue about the music And occasionally give you very judgemental looks ✈️ The mission Every couple of weeks, cats arrive at Perth Airport ready to head to Cat Haven. We need legends who can * Pick up the cats from the airport * Drive them safely to Cat Haven in Shenton Park * Return the empty crates back to the airport _does not need to be on same day * Occasionally help with other local cat transport jobs too This is an ongoing role, so we are building a small, reliable team who can share the trips. 🕒 When? Usually during the day when flights arrive (week days). If you can help once every few weeks, you would make a real difference. 🚘 You would suit this role if you * Have a reliable car * Are calm and happy transporting animals * Can commit to being part of a rostered team * Want to help save lives in a practical, behind the scenes way You might not get five star ratings in an app… But you will absolutely be a five star human to the cats. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you would like to join our Cat Chauffeur Crew, comment below or send us a message and we will share the details. 🐾 Want to be part of our transport team in general? Whether it is cats, dogs, airport runs, vet visits, or helping animals get to their foster homes, we are always looking for reliable legends to join our SAFE Transport Team in Perth. If you would like to help animals travel safely on their journey to a better life, we would love to hear from you. Please email us at [email protected] and tell us a little about your availability and location. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

As the month comes to a close, we’d like to take a moment to recognise and thank Zillah, who will be stepping away from SAFE Bunbury after 15 years of involvement with the branch. Over many years, Zillah has given an incredible amount of time, care, and commitment to helping animals in need and supporting SAFE Bunbury within the local community. Long-term dedication like this makes a real difference, not only to the animals whose lives have been changed, but to the people who work alongside one another to make that care possible. On behalf of SAFE Inc, we sincerely thank Zillah for her years of service and contribution, and we wish her all the very best as she steps away from active involvement. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

📍 Fact Friday | SAFE’s footprint across Western Australia 🐾 FACT: SAFE doesn’t just operate where our branches are located. We support animals across a vast network of towns, regions and remote communities throughout WA. This footprint map shows not only our branches, but all the areas that feed into them, including regional centres, inland towns and remote locations where animals rely on foster-based rescue to access safety, care and a pathway forward. Some of these areas are separated by hundreds, even thousands of kilometres. What connects them is a shared commitment from foster carers, volunteers and SAFE supporters who step up when animals need help. It’s a powerful snapshot of what community-led, foster-based rescue looks like across Western Australia. Every dot represents teamwork. Every region reflects compassion in action. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

Tip Thursday 🐾 | Cooling pets safely When temperatures rise, it is natural to want to cool pets down quickly, but not all cooling methods are safe or helpful. Some well-intended actions can actually place extra stress on the body or make overheating worse. Safe cooling is about helping dogs and cats regulate their temperature gradually and comfortably. Using the right approach reduces the risk of shock, distress or complications and supports the body’s natural cooling processes. Understanding how to cool pets safely can make a significant difference during hot weather and helps prevent heat-related emergencies. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit

Tip Thursday 🐾 | Hot ground risks On warm days, surfaces like roads, paths and sand can heat up far beyond the air temperature. What feels manageable to us can be painful or damaging for paws in a very short amount of time. Paw pad burns are common and often preventable, yet they are frequently not noticed until an animal is already uncomfortable or injured. Once damage occurs, it can limit movement, delay healing and increase stress. Being mindful of where and when pets walk is a simple way to protect their comfort and reduce the risk of avoidable injury. #SAFEInc #OurfutureisSAFE #Focusingontherehomable #Adoptdontshop #Fosteringsaveslives #actbelongcommit
