📣ANNOUNCING: “magic ephemera” 2024–26 New York Community Trust Van Lier Visual Art Fellows Cyle Warner, kiarita, and Megan Mi-Ai Lee present a culminating exhibition marking the conclusion of their two-year residency at Abrons Arts Center. While each fellow’s practice is different in form and approach, the three are united by a shared curiosity around memory and family histories. Artworks inspired by Caribbean breeze blocks, found objects, and a Las Vegas karaoke bar invite us into sites of personal meaning. Alongside work by the Fellows, the exhibition includes artworks curated by the Fellows from Abrons Visual Artist AIRspace Residency alumni Baseera Khan (2016–17), Elliott Jerome Brown Jr. (2019–20), and Park McArthur (2013–14), who serve as Fellowship mentors. Curated by Ali Rosa-Salas, Director of Abrons Arts Center. Exhibition design by Anzia Anderson. 🗓June 12–August 2 📍Abrons Arts Center 🔗Details at the link in bio

ARTIST FILES 001: KIARITA One thing I’ve always been great at is really seeing and hearing people, especially artists, sensitives, those who move through the world feeling misunderstood. I stand with them. This is Artist Files, a new series where I sit in with artists and listen to them talk about their process. Their story is the center and my focus. We’re used to seeing the polished final product, but somewhere along the way the process itself became esoteric, almost hidden. I want to bring light back to the reality of being an artist. And hopefully their words will touch the hearts of others as well. Thankfully, I got to sit in with Kiara as she talked to me about painting intimacy onto decor and how chaos and control co-conspire in her work. I left learning as much about endurance as I did about tenderness. The full interview is live now on my Substack.

“gentle rain kissed the ground” 2025 oil on leather inside found record player come by @welcometohausen before june 30th to see my very favorite of the 33 works in home[body]. the title was inspired by my lover coming to me in a dream as a gentle rain, warm, refreshing, the kind you just let wash over you. my favorite kind of rain to open myself up to. i used one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite albums to reflect the sentiment. there are some really beautiful details you have to get close to the painting to see, the altar in the background on the top left, the undulation of hue in my lover’s back, the plant i grew for them on top of the stack of records on the right…so email the gallery to come by & get close!!! <3 too grateful for the love and lessons in this life. it’s nothing better. p.s. you guys should read the hagakure it’s really a heavy hitter on every page! rain means blessings!

HAUSEN is pleased to present 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦[𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺], the debut solo exhibition by kiarita (@sacralrise ), curated by Usen Esiet (@usen_esiet ) in our Brooklyn space. As Evyn Bileri Banawoye (@evynbana ) writes, “The exhibition title, 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦[𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺], is a revision of its common understanding of introversion. In 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦[𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺], we imagine a home satiated by a Chosen Family; loved ones of the artist. Privacy is created by hidden paintings that emerge from the interiors of old vintage furniture that have been found, given, or transported by friends. In the artist’s debut solo exhibition, strangers become kindred as they enter 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦[𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺], a place of ease.” Please join us for the opening reception on Thursday, 6 March (6 - 9PM) with sounds by @c0swo . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Kindly RSVP at the link in our bio or email [email protected] 📬 to confirm your attendance, after which you’ll receive more info about the location 📍 —— About the artist: kiarita (b.1999 Hackensack, NJ) is a Brooklyn based artist of Dominican descent. Their work tends to proximities of the intimate and differing notions of home by painting and collaging objects into found furniture. They hold a BFA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of Visual Arts and are a current Bronx AIM as well as New York Van Lier Trust Fellow. They have received honors from the Rema Hort Mann Foundation and the Sylvia Lipson Allen Memorial Fund and have been featured in numerous group shows nationwide, though primarily showing in New York City.
