This Friday marks Norouz, the Persian New Year.
For over 3000 years, our new year has been tied to the spring equinox. At its centre is the Haft-Sin, a table that brings people together to welcome renewal and hope.
This year, ours sits in the middle of BOUS, while the space is still under construction.
For us Iranians, this new year arrives heavy. It comes with grief, uncertainty, and a longing for better days, shaped by all that has been endured.
In moments like this, we return to what cannot be taken from us: our customs, our food, our stories. The things that have always carried us forward.
BOUS is being built with that in mind. Itโs not just a restaurant, but a way to bring Persian culture into Montreal in a way that is lived and experienced. Through the table, the space, and the way we gather, we hope to share its beauty, its richness, and its generosity with the city we love and now call home.
Norouz reminds us of something simple but powerful: Spring always follows winter.
Norouz Pirouz.
Miles away, we sit behind our screens in awe of the Iranian people fighting for freedom.
What I hear in all their chants, in all their voices, is hope!
At the start of 2025, I wanted to move out of the comfort zones I had built for myself. And I did just that.
2025 wasnโt comfortable, but it was honest. It asked me to stay when I wanted to pull back, to face things instead of smoothing them over. It stretched me in quiet ways, and somehow that made everything feel more real.
I was a different me that I ended up liking more than all other versions.
2025, you were kinda great in a quiet way!
And 2026 feels louder, but more intentional.
