Since there’s really no way of properly crediting for this project, I wanted to document all of the materials I used for the shirt designs : ) there were lots of unused items that didn’t make the cut, but these were the lucky ones 🍀🍀
Also couldn’t justify buying every fun thing I saw (my room was already looking crazy w all the saved wrappers everywhere 🚮), so phone pics for a few items worked well enough to use and wanted to include them here : )

Stop Crying, 2025
Last year was a heavy year for me, filled with a lot of grief & pain. I’m much better now, but healing is forever and what has fueled this project<3
I’d consider myself a pretty emotional person, aka I cry pretty easily (lol). And during this period of sorrow, I was really confronted with my emotions and how uncomfortable crying has always made me feel. I found myself overwhelemed by vivid memories of people throughout my childhood (mostly loved ones) telling me things like “Stop Crying”, “Why the Tears?”, & “There’s Nothing to Cry About”–all direct quotes.
I’m sure other things have conditioned me to feel shame/stupidity/weakness when I feel anything other than happiness & gratitude. But I can’t help but tie this strong correlation to my culture–how expressing negative emotions is so shamed.
All this to say, I think this is necessary context for this project. It was really important for me to use these quotes that I’ve been compiling in my notes app and subconsciously holding onto for 20+ yrs, in hopes of maybe feeling a little less stupid when I’m watching Love is Blind and the tears start welling up.
Over the past few months I sourced materials primarily from Asian dollar stores. These places specifically hold such a nostalgic & special place in my 🩵, especially for someone who grew up with the clutter, chaos, & ∞ stacks of dusty sticker sheets. Some notable traits of 99¢ store merch are silly typos, knockoff characters, & generic phrases like “Beautiful Life” & “Thinking of You” that are all important to the designs. The 3 tee designs explore themes rooted in my childhood–like friendship/fortune/love/self expression–that would make me cry and would be told “there’s nothing to cry about.” The riso prints are scanned designs of used/unused items/their packaging that were just too good not to use in the tee designs. It was like a treasure hunt sourcing & taking bits n pieces to create something new–there is truly endless joy+inspiration in these stores.
This project makes me emotional (cried 3x writing this) & I hope it resonates with other crybabies too~ 3 tee designs ($35 ea) & 2 riso prints ($15 ea). NO ONLINE STORE, SO DM ME ILY
