What an experience! If you had asked me prior to the Entanglements Festival if I enjoyed experimental music, I without a doubt would have probably said, “Nah not really”
Now, after having done sound for an entire three day festival, that revolves around experimental music, that perspective has completely shifted.
My initial thoughts on the genre was that it was unlistenable. However after being surrounded by it for 3 consecutive days, attending the workshops, and working with/ being surrounded by the individuals that produce and work within the experimental music scene - I’ve come to find that the genre is not about just making a bunch of noise, with the occasional boop and beep here and there.
It’s about breaking away from traditional music conventions, taking the listener out of their comfort zone, allowing them to develop a sense of control, and forcing them to make sense of the sound.
The Entanglements Festival was honestly an unreal experience!
Thank you to
@saaa__ge &
@sensa.org.za for allowing me to be part of this intentional, and collaborative festival. It was an absolute pleasure mixing, doing incomprehensible performance changeovers, and getting 3hrs of sleep!
To the various performers, thank you for allowing me to experience your talent, and entrusting me to mix your sound.
To
@ganesh_capetown thank you for your hospitality, it was amazing being in your space and working with you, and finally to
