This was the second time I’d seen Marilyn Manson. The first time was in 1997 in Atlanta at the International Ballroom and boy these two shows could not have been any different. I wasn’t into his music back then but he was shocking and I wanted to see the show. He was touring on the “Antichrist Superstar” album and it was huge. So me and three friends; who were really into his music; made the trek, dropped acid, and watched him rip pages from the bible, cut himself, and get the crowd to chant in unison; “We love hate. We hate love.” It was amazing. It was terrifying. It was showmanship at its finest and it was an INSANE psychedelic experience. On the rainy car ride home @kevinwaynemoore played Widespread Panic’s “Everyday” album and it was the first time I’d ever heard any of Panic’s music. That album, one of Panic’s best, was the perfect compliment to the bizarro world we’d just spent two hours tripping in.

God I love this man’s music so much. So simple yet so intricate. I laugh at myself sometimes for how I chose not to like Wilco when “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” came out because they were the indie darling band. If it was “cool” I just didn’t want to like it. Well, then “A Ghost is Born” dropped and I threw all that contrarian bullshit out the window. I started learning guitar during Covid and Jeff’s music has probdbly been the biggest influence on me. I still suck at it but whatever.
Also, concert chompers. Why? How much lack of self awareness can one have to not know you’re being the loud guy(s) talking during the slow and quiet songs? On three different occassions the following night people around me had to be sternly sshh’ed and even told to “shut the fuck up.” People man.
