Royce Caleb Makmur’s design Sabotage examines Indonesia’s colonial past through bold, couture-driven silhouettes. Referencing periods of Dutch, Japanese, Portuguese, French, English, and Spanish occupation, the work reflects themes of exploitation and forced labor. A palette of black, blood and crimson red, silver, beige, and brown is paired with heavy fabrics like velvet, duchess, wool, and leather, contrasted by chiffon, tulle, and crinoline. By reworking traditional Indonesian dress such as beskap and kebaya with European elements like panniers and leather, Makmur creates a powerful, ceremonial tension between heritage, violence, and resilience.
