⏪ THROWBACK: Almost a year ago now, and this is still one of my favorite shots I've planned and brought to life, so I wanted to share a peek into how it came together.
In filmmaking, you need careful planning but you also need the boldness to just go out and shoot something. This shot was a great mixture of the two. We could have waited around until we could afford the best gear and more crew, but it was more important at the time to just go outside and figure out how to make it happen with what we had.
Physical problem solving like this is one of the things I love most about film and video. If you've shot something complicated and cool, please share how you did it!

Back in January, @captainspacecadet approached me with the idea of filming an entire live session for @balconybridge at one of Seattle's most legendary venues. They wanted a classic look--long lenses from the back, clean lighting, and long holds that let you feel like a part of the scene and appreciate the detail and performance.
After patient planning and lots of fried chicken (so much), we came away with 12 full length songs captured with 8 cameras, 5 of which were operated by a lovely and highly skilled crew:
